CONFIRMED: Windows 7 To RTM July 13th

Recommended Posts

What changes are expected in RTM? Are there any surprises?
No. Some people will try to convince you that there will be some visual user interface changes. Some will even claim that Steve Sinofsky personally told them so when, in fact, all he said was something quite vague. Expect that the RTM version will be essentially the same as the recent post-RC builds. Which is a good thing. I'm running build 7201 and it's quite solid.

Okay, so Neowin too has confirmed this thing. :D It says available on TechNet/MSDN on 13th as well. I wish for that! Searching around on Vista RTM days, it appeared some days after RTM announcement, like a week after announcement so does this mean RTM will be finalized before 13th?!

and btw. How do they deliver the RTM versions to OEMs now. I mean I remember reading some Windows disk was delivered aboard a helicopter. It's still done that way or digital copy i.e. download?

How is this even possible? In the space between July 13th and October; this thing is going to get leaked to the net - people will download it (but then you wont get updates or anything from ms as its not validated) and then a load of paatches will be released which you cant download as you have a fake copy!

Therfore the RTM version cannot possibly be the final version to hit the shelves!

Or am I wrong?

Ok fair enough. So how does one go about getting this RTM build?

Only way to get it "legally" when it RTMs is by TechNet for the general public, which costs $350 for a year but you get access to every piece of Microsoft software out...

Obviously theres the other way - and i'm not condoning doing it the other way...but surely it makes sense to wait as you dont get any updates or patches.

I love how you use M$ and free in the same sentence. Classy.

I love how you use "M$" whilst judging someone on being classy. Classy.

Does anyone know if the OEM DVD's are being made available to buy before the Oct 22nd release date? I never buy a retail copy as I don't need the support. :p

RTM IS Final, but at this stage it's only given out to the PC manufacturers and other partners/people with TechNet/MSDN subscriptions, while it will hit the GA (general availability) stage on October 22nd, which is when it will hit store shelves.

Cool. Thanks.

if one is a beta tester for m$, they may opt to offer those a free version of win 7 rtm. i was offered this for vista. besides you can buy and download the final version.

Hmm.... I guess people who report bugs, do get the Retail version of the OS for free..... Not very sure though.

Vista beta testers who submitted at least one report were given a free copy of Vista Ultimate. I wouldn't expect the same for Windows 7 due to the nature of its development cycle.

I don't think you understood my sarcasm. I've never understood the whole M$ thing. It is cliche, unoriginal and quite honestly, childish.

Probably not, unless you're an MCP or something.... I doubt they care much about getting the software to smaller computer companies, since most of the money is in giving it to OEMs like Dell, Gateway, HP, etc.

this news is the evidence that Win7 will be shipped with a lot of unfixed bugs! :D

Your post is evidence that you are a person who will continue to use XP until you die. Go back to your dinosaur father will you?

Windows 7's post-RC builds have been virtually bug free, so I doubt anything major will come about after RTM.
