Tharp Daddy
Well, Kodu was released, besides the horrible map share method, this is a DAMN amazing game for only 5 dollars, you can make almost limitless games, the dev's are already working on updates and they are very active in the community, downloading maps, sharing them, and chatting with the players. Official Page: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/projects/kodu/ Kodu Blog: http://community.research.microsoft.com/bl...du/default.aspx Anyone else have this? So far i have made a hero arena, choose a hero and fight it out with others, each has special abilities. A top down shooter with killer robots spawning all the time. A tower defense, and i'm next planning on a RPG.
gamerboy
I got it but haven't done much with it yet. Just tried to get the basics down and haven't had the time to play and really make games yet.
George P Global Moderator Posted July 4, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted July 4, 2009 It sounds like you can make loads of different games with this once you get the hang of it. And if they listen to the users and keep working on it and expanding it more it should be a big hit.

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted July 6, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 6, 2009 I just wish it was not a timed demo, or at least they extended the time to be something a bit more substantial than what it currently is. I only get enough time to realize I need way more time to figure stuff out, but that is not convincing me to make a purchase if I actually want to spend the money or not. I am all for these type of apps, but I remember way more of a marketing push for this when it was first announced. I think they really released this with little to almost no fanfare at all which is a bit surprising considering the initial excitement, so based on this fact I am thinking it is not as good as they really hoped it would be. I still think for $5 one could not go wrong if they are even remotely interested in making their own game, but for someone like me, who is interested in doing such a thing but also realizes nothing serious would ever come of it, I would much rather that more games included a map '/ level creation dev tools... which almost no one is ever going to do in the future as it means they cannot charge for their DLC maps they make. So might one day find the urge to buy it, for now more interested in seeing what people come up with first.

It's worth buying, the community is growing, the devs are already working on game updates with new features. But because it's a XNA game IGN and other such sites are not giving it as much spotlight time as arcade titles.

I think the main reason for not a lot of advertisement is the fact that microsoft didn't want to show bias toward it since it was a XNA that their devs worked on but wasn't officially a microsoft title. George P Global Moderator Posted July 6, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted July 6, 2009 It's a nice title that shows what XNA lets you do though. I think more people will take note now.

Zoom still occurred when in programmatic first person mode, which was disorienting when going back into chase cam. Crash when opening the virtual keyboard with too long of a string. Crash when opening example [say] tile from the programming help. Crash while sharing with friends whose GamerTag?s used unsupported characters. Softlock when adding more than 8 Lights. Tweak to turn objects invisible (not visible to the user, other bots can still see them). Tweak to make objects ghosted out (able to pass through anything, and are translucent). If both Invisibility and Ghosted are set, the object will be complete:) invisible. :) Added a dabber tool to make it easy to select terrain types. Terrain types used in the current world are now placed at the beginning of the terrain picker. Worlds now contain a credit listing of who worked on them. This is accessed in the World Options screen. Ability to edit world tags in the Load World menu. Added glyph for soccer ball: [ball], [soccer ball] (replace square brackets with angled. this editor won't let me use chars that look like html tags). While the game will never really have you're own unique visual style since it is all pre-styled to look like Kodu, it is a wonderful test bed for game concepts. Once I have some serious time (Specifically when I'm out of school in the next year or so) I hope to sit down with this editor and start really pumping out some game concepts. Once I have some serious time (Specifically when I'm out of school in the next year or so) I hope to sit down with this editor and start really pumping out some game concepts. They are working on getting alot more visual styles out in the new few patches. The game has done fairly well, and once the PC version is released (steam/impulse maybe?) if it does well enough they have hinted they will work on a much larger version of the project; it seems like this version is a kinda "test the water" version.
