game_over
I have started using the mail client in OSX, ive assigned it to my gmail account. How can i stop it downloading all 20,000 (2.6gb) emails, and if i am reading emails on my iphone or in a browser they are still downloading as unread when the mail client does its checks. thanks
shihchiun
To answer your first question, you can have Gmail enable POP/IMAP for all emails, or emails from now on. To answer your second, use IMAP instead of POP. To simplify, IMAP lets you synchronize your email, whereas POP will only let you download messages. Phantom Helix
here are the gmail settings links for IMAP This first one is basic config. http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=81379 This second one is Apple Mail 3.0 leopard specific settings, click on the "apple Mail" link to show the exact settings. http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78892# IMAP is for synchronizing, but these settings will keep the Mail App from deleting MSG's on the server. To stop the message download go to Mail app preferences > click the "@" accounts button, select the gmail account from the left, then click the "Advanced Tab " next to Mailbox behaviors, forth sentence down it says " Keep copies of Messages for offline viewing " change that to " Don't Keep Copies of any messages " this however basically defeats the purpose of using a Mail Client App, especially with Gmail since its web interface is incredibly powerful
