Heretic, Citadel, and Longshore

You've laid eyes on Heretic before, both as "Midship" in Halo 2 and through the small looking glass we provided by way of one of the images on our Halo 3: ODST Product Page. But since today is Bungie Day, we figured you deserved a little bit more perspective. Here's a sneak peak at Heretic, Citadel, and Longshore, three maps you'll find packed into the Halo 3 multiplayer disc included with Halo 3: ODST. Click each image to make huge.

Heretic

Suspended Disbelief

Heretic returns players to familiar ground as the Halo 2 arena “Midship” makes its long-rumored debut in Halo 3. The stark interior of the Pious Inquisitor might appear austere on first glance, but Heretic’s symmetrical spaces require players to execute complex strategies in order to outplay their opponents.

Citadel

inline_H3ODST_Citadel_env-01.jpg

Illuminated

Citadel may be a long abandoned Forerunner stronghold, but its small, symmetrical confines are far from secure. Two opposing bases offer little safety for players looking for solace. Instead, Citadel forces small squads to stay in constant communication, keep their heads on a swivel, and be prepared to adjust combat tactics in close quarters.

Longshore

Unsafe Harbor

Longshore lacks the commercial ships that once made it a lucrative port for Old Mombasa, but it still bustles with activity. Designed for large scale combat and well suited for smaller affairs, Longshore’s multitude of industrial buildings, elevated walks, and open inlets conspire to create a complex battleground tailored for multiple combat scenarios.

The pricing this go around has been horrible. The bungie we knew has been replaced by make much more money bungie.

All in all many if not all of H3's original maps have been dull and uninspiring. I'm personally glad to see Midship return but wished others like Prisoner made a comeback as well.

Many have said price is not justified to which I agree. Even including all the map packs(free or paid) from halo 3 with ODST, doesnt mean anything. I mean the Paid Map Packs(legendary and mythic) are 800 points / $10. So lets say ODST was 20 + 20 = 40. Or 30 + 20 = 50 then 3 new maps = 60. Which is how I think they justifty there price.

That a Full game is 60 and an "expansion" should be 20-30. And plus map packs. So basically your paying for map packs, they just dont tell you. Me personally, first halo game ill buy on release and even thou price isnt justified, the 100 GS Exclusive with green controller is DEFFENTLY JUSTIFIED! I will in a heart beat pay $100 for all the maps(i didnt buy paid, downloaded cold storage and heroic(if this is the free one, always get them confused). And get 3 new ones plus Reach plus SGT Johnson(not a big deal but steal).

Anyway my point is, its justified for me to get the limited. As far as I know, a Special controller for "$40"(60 for game + 40 ='s 100 for limited) is not bad. And if rumors are true, the battery pack, if its rechargeable is a BIG PLUS.

i missed out on halo 3 so this deal is extra value for me (limited edition or not). i'll prob go with the limited as the green controlled looks awesome (didnt know about the rumour of the battery pack!)

this game spans on 2 discs... one disc is strictly halo multiplayer with all maps and map packs included (and 3 brand new maps)

the other disc will have the halo odst campaign, which i think is very big, its open world and 4 player co-op... more than just a expansion... awesome. also has firefight mode which is just like horde mode from gears

great bundle if u ask me

What did you think was going to happen when Bungie purchased a majority share of their stock back from Microsoft?

New original IP?

I'm sure that's coming too, but right now they have an evergreen franchise that's money in the bank, of course they're going to exploit that, especially if they can continue doing it with small teams like ODST.

^^^Microsoft still owns the Halo IP, afaik. That's why we're seeing it milked. Bungie's going along with it because, besides the money in it, they don't want to see another company ruin the franchise. You can damn well bet Microsoft will go to another if Bungie decides to stop working on Halo. You are right about new IP though - Bungie is creating some and I'm sure we'll be seeing it in the future, probably sooner rather than later. The whole point of them becoming independent was so they'd be freer to work on their own, non-Halo IP.

Too little, too late. I really missed the small arena maps like Midship when I was actually playing Halo 3, but I'm not going to get back into it at this point.

+1. This is where Bungie lost me on Halo3. :/ Too many big maps and not many (any?) for a group of 3/4. Sure I can play around with forge and such but it doesn't always work out.

Bungie stated they wanted their maps to be free, it's microsoft that is forcing them to make people pay for them. Even Valve had issues getting their content free. Bungie released heroic, and Cold Storage for free, but microsoft won't let them give it all away. Don't blame Bungie.

Do you have a link for that? There's so much scuttlebutt on this topic, I have a tendency to reject it out of hand at this point because so many people on various boards are often inaccurately claiming that so and so said blah blah blah.

AFAIK, their policy on 360 has been that the previous pack goes free when the new pack goes on sale.

It was in their podcast, they started discussing people whining over the cost of the legendary and then stated that they wanted it to be free, but microsoft forced them to make it cost microsoft points.

So, they won't be free after some time like the first mappack either? (if I recall correctly, the heroic map pack went free after 6 months)
