new macbook pro 13"

Recommended Posts

awesome little machine.

2.53ghz

8gb ram

256 gb SSD

I got more ram and maxed it to 8 gb to run VM's for work...

it's a great laptop....forget the AIR if you were considering like i was...too much compromises versus the pro 13.

carry it in a Tom Bihn brain cell horizontal.

and so it has joined my thinkpad t61p. :) I sold my 2006 17" macbook pro a while back but was itching to get another mac. :) great machines and OS to work on.

got a led 24" screen for it also....

Marry him ;)

 Nice.

I have to say though. One of the (few) things I like with the new machines is the new RAM ceiling. 8GB is a serious amount of RAM (Y)

Forget the Macbook, forget the LED screen. I want your wallet :(

lol

been saving for a while....

and the wife has been taking over my 2007 thinkpad alot lately....it was slowing my work efforts...

I'll take some pics with the led screen plugged in when I get the room/desk cleaned up a bit in the house.

My old P4 desktops have all gone the way of rust ville...the case, motherboard, powersupply mainly all suffered rust till the machine just died....I wasn't going to spend money to revive an old P4 3.0 ghz. lol...we live in a salt air environment....they don't fair too well compared to laptops which are more sealed and in bags alot of the time...

Just ordered one of these bad boys two days ago and can't wait for it to arrive.

I got the 13", 4 gig though.

I got the 2.26ghz and 4GB of RAM. It's plenty for what I do.

I love it though. it's a great Laptop.

Great to hear. :)

I finally got sick of Windows and am finally switching over to Mac.

Has anyone had any experience with parallels desktop? Is 4GB of RAM enough to run XP or possibly vista side by side with OSX without compromising the speed/performance of the system?

Try Virtual Box from www.virtualbox.org. It runs great and it's free. for XP just assign 1GB of RAM. I dot think you'll need more. For Vista I had 2 GB of RAM assigned.

The only downside when running any vmware is that battery gets drained faster, but it will still do the job.

depends on what all you want to do with those other OS's in the VM's.

base install of XP can run on 256-512mb fine...unless you want to do gaming or or heavy things like photoshop.

base install of Vista can run on 784mb - 1gb unless you want to do gaming or heavy things like photoshop.

I've setup those and on a previous macbook pro and it work fine for base installs for testing things or learning the new operating systems or running light apps.
