ultimate99
Do you guys think that little snitch is essential or necessary? I'm using the demo version but feel no difference.
Miuku.
It's merely there to prevent software from calling home if you don't want to - the default firewall is merely a "Nothing in" solution. It depends on how far you want to control your machine and the software in it.

Miuku.
I need more coffee - I'm writing completely non-sensible stuff. Anyway - my point was how much control you want over the software, if you want to control it to the extent that you want to hand pick any net access for each program, then little snitch is an excellent tool but it won't magically make you any safer from incoming connections - the default firewall is sufficient for that task. It's good if you suspect that you have "additional friends" on your machine or to track down a rogue program that's using your bandwidth.
Quillz
I actually didn't like the application the first time I ever used it, but now it's one my "must-have" Mac applications. It's extremely useful, and very customizable. So even an individual application can be tailored to allow for only certain connections, say, downloading, while blocking everything else (uploads, activation, update checks, etc.)
DigitalE
I use its network monitor extensively - I like to know what apps are doing what at any given time.
what
I'm using the demo version but feel no difference. It's a firewall. You shouldn't feel any difference. The intrusive firewalls you get on Windows are bad examples of how to make a useful application.
thefarewellnote
I would like to see a study on Little Snitch to see who uses it for legal purposes compared to those who use it for illegal purposes (i.e. Adobe CS install)

Something like ZoneAlarm is like Little Snitch.
.Neo
I thought people used the hosts file for that? Lol yeah, that's probably much easier than to run a third-party application 24/7.
