Moments in your gaming career which made you go, "WOW!"?

Recommended Posts

The gameplay of the first Ghost Recon (loved the limp when you got shot in the leg).

Sniper mission in COD4.

Playing GTA 3 for first time.

Half-life2 when you stepped outside for 1st time.

Playing Deux Ex and realising it wasn't on rails - so free and open ended.

Wow theres loads! 2 that come into my mind strait away are:

Fallout 3 - Stepping out the vault for the first time and looking across that massive barren landscape!

Halflife 2 - Amazing game, so many times it impressed me!

Halo 3 - Epic game, any of the moments where the theme tune kicked in :D

The first time I played Soldier of Fortune on PC. I was very young and a huge fan of gore. The first time I blew someone's limbs off with the shotgun was so amazing. Ok that sounds weird, but I like gore in games, nothing weird about that.

Seeing my Brother play GTA 3 for the first time, it mesmerized me. Then finally getting my Grandma to get it for me on the PC and playing it for hours and hours. Too many events to name that made me go "WOW". Every 10 minutes. :)

Mafia on PC. The first game where I truly appreciated a good story. Such an incredible game, I loved every second of it and couldn't stop thinking about it for long after finishing it.

Eve-Online: Flying a Carrier in a group of 60 other friendly carriers and being primaried by the enemy capital fleet. Watching my carrier enter shields then armor and then structure And just before I was about to die be fully repaired by my teammates. This was back when carriers were pretty new.

A moment I will never forget ;)

- The thermal scope in the sniper rifle and the GPS for tracking enemies locations in I'm Going In 2.

- Sniper Mission in COD Modern Warfare

- The realism and difficulty in Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and GRAW2.

- The stealth feeling in all Splinter Cell

- The visual setting and locations of Far Cry

- The first radioactive blows on the Zone in STALKER

Many more, but those are the ones that I recall the most memorable moments.

First three that came to mind: (in no particular order)

1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (best game ever made)

2. Megaman 3 in Dr. Wily's castle when you fight the Megaman 2 robots again. Totally unexpected and just awesome.

3. Half-Life 2 I'm not normally into first-person shooters, but this was one awesome game.

One that i'll never forget is the first time I crashed in Burnout on the original Xbox. I remember clapping and yelling "That was so ****ing sweet"

...I also had a differnet kind of "wow" moment. At the very end of the game Karatika, you have to run into the chicks arms. If you slowly walk to her she KILLS YOU!!.

Another game that made me go wow, is the opening scene of MGS Substance. The music was so awesome.

I remember the first time I saw Quake with 3d hardware acceleration (GLQuake). It looked surreal compared to the chunky pixel mashup it was w/o the 3d accel. Sadly, I could not afford the hardware upgrade to get such awesomeness for several years after first seeing it.

Final Fantasy VII - Was playing it for ages and I called my friend to ask if I'd nearly finished the game, and he laughed and said I'd barely started. I was amazed how long it was.

Extreme-G 3 (Yeah I know) - First PS2 game I played. Before that it was a Sega Saturn. I was blown away at the graphics and the speed of the game. It was insane at the time.

In no particular order:

Max Payne 2: while the entire game rocked the ending climax/narration/ending credits song all together took my breath away

Starsiege: (sequel to earthsiege 1 and 2) after freeing mars from the imperials the atmosphere of terror and chaos as the cybrids invade was extremely well crafted, and the desperation that grows as the cybrids slowly crush all resistance.

Bioshock: really enjoyed sasha cohans level, as the plaster figures often were enemies hiding, lights go out and when they come back on the statue has moved or disappeared, :D

Fallout 3 and Oblivion: coming out of vault/sewers the sense of freedom allowing you to do anything you wanted to at that point, main story line could be pitched out the window and it was no problem

Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl: the first underground lab, the ambiance was excellent, things moving around, strange noises, jumping enemies and more all combined to make it an excellent experience I look forward to each time I play through the game!

Dreamfall, the Longest Journey: the ending was stark and a bit brutal as you basically lost in spite of all your work

Mass Effect: the ending scene/assault on the citadel was amazing

thats all i can think of off the top of my head, but was nice to think a bit and remember those great moments in gaming i have had over the years. thanks OP

Modern Warfare 2 when I realised how...BAD it is.

Also Uncharted 2- that was one superb game. I finished it and...I've felt like that with no other game- a phenomenal game. It really is.

Hmm. I played it at a friend's house for a short bit and it didn't really click for me. Maybe I need to sit down with it like I did with Fallout 3.
