Kamael
The PC edition of zombastic action game Resident Evil 5 will arrive in North America on September 14 and Europe on September 18, developer Capcom announced today.Enhancements over the previous Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions include support for Nvidia's GeForce 3D Vision hardware, higher resolutions, new costumes and a "new and improved mercenaries mode with three times as many enemies." If you're wondering about system performance, you can find a "Benchmark Version" of Resident Evil 5 on FileShack. The demo runs through several non-interactive cinematics, complete with stereoscopic visuals if you have the hardware. According to Capcom, RE5's use of Nvidia's stereoscopic 3D technology marks "an industry first" as the effects are utilized "in all of [RE5's] cut scenes," not just gameplay. ZakO
Pretty good, fixed test: 55FPS - DX10 1920x1080 C16XQAA (65FPS in the variable test, run 3 times) 71FPS - DX10 1920x1080 4xAA Looks much more like (or perhaps even better than) the console version too, whereas RE4 looked even worse than the PS2 version on PC :p. Doli
I guess it will be a "Game for Windows Live" Title. I just hope that it will not play like a console game on the PC by being too easy with mouse + KB controls.

Anyone else with HD4870 to experience similar issue?
CGBS
ATI currently has issues with this benchmark when it comes to DX10 & AA, especially the last two areas. 8xAA: DX9 - http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/2867/re...71620350328.jpg DX10 - http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/9656/re...71620432795.jpg (notice the huge drop in Area 3) DX10 No AA: http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/3496/re...00907171100.jpg

Richard Hammond
I hope they remove the cant walk and shoot at same time control system because i bought this for the xbox 360 and then sold it in the same day as the controls were a load of crap. MasterSasuke
wow, this your first resident evil game? I think it's supposed to add to the tension, were you able to run and shoot, the game would either be too easy, or too hard considering you'd prolly waste half your bullets on missed shots. Saying it adds to the tension is just a cop out, there is no reason to make the player stuck to the spot when aiming when a big group of fast moving zombies are running towards you, it worked well when the zombies were slow shambling beasts, its just an excuse for poor game design. No this isnt my first resident evil, ive played and finished all Resident Evil games bar Resident Evil 4, ive read all the books, watched all the films, etc.. etc.. etc.. Just tried the benchmark: 70.5FPS Average hardly ever dipped below 60 but i would probably put Vsync on as there was lots of screen tearing. 1920x1200, 4xAA everything else on max/high. MasterSasuke
poor game design? is that why you keep playing them? ""there is no reason to make the player stuck to the spot when aiming when a big group of fast moving zombies are running towards you,"" exactly what i mean, you gotta shoot all of them before they reach you and strangle you or whatever, if they wanted to make it to where you could move and shoot, they would have. And if you really want to move and shoot and kill zombies at the same time, go play Halo.
Richard Hammond
Yawn theres always one, just because i dont like being stuck to the spot doesnt mean i want big guns to run around and infinite bullets to spray zombies with, making the player have to stand still to shoot IS poor game design however you look at it, it worked well in the Resident Evils where the zombies were slow and shambling, it makes no sense when there are a bunch of maurading zombie like people running at you. Sethos
I'm not an avid Resident Evil fan but I played a few of the older games on the consoles, so I might have missed a few of the 'newer' games. One thing that annoys me to no end, playing the Xbox 360 Demo and watching the variable benchmark is the way the zombies take the hit. That static, forced animation that looks like something out of Time Crisis - It looks horrible! Shooting a zombie on a ladder and it goes into a major spasm, warps off the ladder and hits the ground at 200 mph. Shooting a zombie on the ground 'resets' the animation, making it stand up again, just to fall to the ground, again! Blood sprays look totally out of place and everything seems so "overacted". Perhaps it isn't a major issue for some but it looks so god damn awful it completely destroys that "I want this game" feeling. What happened to decent static animations or physics for that matter? Yeah, perhaps I'm too picky  Edited July 18, 2009 by Sethos

Dude, it's not poor game design, in fact, it's what makes Resident Evil different and better than many of the other FPSs. However I look at it? I'm looking at it from a professional stand-point. I'm certain they've tested each of the resident evil games trying to see if it would be anywhere near as good if one was able to move around and shoot at the same time, it does make sense when they are runing at you because exactly that. Of course they're going to make the enemies faster, why would they keep the same slow enemies game after game after game? they're going to make changes that'll make the game better, harder, and scarier than the ones before. They are running at you full speed, and you're there scared out of your mind with your weapon pulled and slowly backing up, trying to shoot them before they get to you, I'd call that extremely good design for a horror game, wouldn't you think?
