ak03
I'm having trouble installing OSX on my dell e520. Im using a retail distro (10.5.6) and using a boot 132 cd. I'm using the guide found here from insanelymac. I choose to install with the -v flag and while going through the installation i encountered this error: It looks like an issue with the sleep controller? im not sure but does anyone have an idea of how to fix the issue? Any help is appreciated. Thanks :)

protocol7
Looks like it's not seeing your Leopard disc. That usually means a problem with the DVD driver. Have a look around insanelymac and you'll probably find a solution. Usually a lack of replies means the question has been asked and answered many times already. random_n
It means that it can't find the boot media. When it switches from the retro text mode to the one in your screenshot, it changes how it accesses the disk system. You'll need to specify the right path at startup like rd=disk1s3, and you'll need to have support for your DVD drive's controller as well. If you can boot one of the prebuilt OSX86 distributions, the disk utility will tell you what the correct rd number is to use, otherwise just increment the disk# starting from 0 and abandoning hope after 6 (and it'll always be s3 for retail media). If OSX doesn't support your drive controller, then you'll need to add drivers to your boot image. I'm sure there are helpful guides on InsanelyMac for that, but I found it easier just to get a SATA burner for my ICH10 rather that try to bodge a way for my PATA drive to work. Also worth trying is an older version like 10.5.1 - they do work a bit differently.
Gibletz
Your running on an unsupported SATA hd, "Still Waiting For Root Device" usually means that it can't find the hard drive and thus won't boot, to fix this issue install an IDE hard drive that Darwin supports. External drives are ok too, but more problematic.

I think you tread a very thin line when talking about OSx86 on Neowin, but I now know what you can say and what you can't.
giga Veteran Posted July 27, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 27, 2009 If you're not using a retail disc, you're pirating OS X. Piracy is against our community rules. Thread cleaned.
