In the shop...

Recommended Posts

So, after about 4 months of putting up with a small issue, I finally took the iMac into the shop for an odd thing....the Hard drive writhed in pain (or sounded like it), when booting into Bootcamp at first, and then during normal usage in OS X. The other day was the final blow to the system I guess when I plugged a USB device in and it hard froze. No biggie I thought so I powered it off and then back on. This time, a loud sqealing came out of the poor computer and got the dreaded NO OS folder flash.

Fortunately I was able to boot off of my spare hard drive which I use to clone my system nightly. I was very very impressed by that ability and within minutes was up and running enough to record the sound. (See attached). Of course, booting was slower as from USB but hey, was able to run for a few last minute things right?

So, now I sit here with my little laptop staring at the gaping hole on my desk while the folks at the shop order a new hard drive in today and putter around with it until they decided to release it. Since I have Applecare on it, it isn't too bad, but I already miss that computer!

I told my fiance' that I am used to being the one who opens computers and replaces hardware, not someone else, so it was a huge step to leave it in another person's hands. :( Hopefully, come Wednesday I should have it back.
