Various improvements have been made to make it easier for you to see your game in the highest resolution possible when using an HDMI connection.

Display Discovery - This feature allows you to override audio and/or video formats independent of the display's capabilities.

How it works - By default, the console uses the information provided by the display (via its EDID) to determine the audio and video capabilities of the device. However, often the data is invalid or malformed, hence compatibility issues are encountered. When disabling display discovery, the EDID of the display is ignored, thereby, enabling the audio and video settings to be overridden with the desired format regardless of display support.

Who should use it? - The Display Discovery feature is available for DVI and HDMI connections in the Display settings section of System Settings in the dashboard. Please note that Display Discovery should only be disabled if audio and/or video related compatibility issues are encountered - otherwise, the output quality may be compromised.

Monitor Support - Additional monitor resolutions are now available for HDMI connecUser Ratings ? (Available Now, All Regions)gions)

Purchase - You can purchase a game through the Game Marketplace and download it directly to your console. This purchase is also stored in your purchase history so you can delete it and download it again if you run out of space.

Manuals - Game manuals will be available for these games on Xbox.com so that you will still have access to the full manual that comes with the boxed version of the game.

Digital Rights Management (DRM) - Games on Demand titles follow the same licensing rights as all other forms of downloadable content. Users are granted a user license that will allow the purchasing Gamertag to play the game on any console, and a console license that will allow anyone to play on the console that the content was originally downloaded to. Some parts of the dashboard have been slightly re-organized to make it easier to find the things you?re looking for.

Indie Games - We listened to our community and have decided to change Xbox LIVE Community Games to Xbox LIVE Indie Games. We feel this new name better represents the independent spirit of these titles. User ratings are also available for Indie Games, which will allow you to share your rating for a game and use ratings from others to find new content. We hope these changes will help people discover more games they love.

Achievement Tracking - A new All Games view inside the Profile panel includes a summary of Achievements earned across all the games played and shows off all your completed games.

Looks great, that's a quite fast release date though, it must be pretty stable as is for them to not take much time with preview testing.

why would i want facebook or twitter on my console? i already hate the avatar people.

Choice and you are not the only user out there, quote below me proves the point ;)

Loving the social networking integration. Would be cool to get a preview early again.

Don't use them then. You make a choice not to use them on your computer, not too hard to adapt that will power to a console. Infact it's pretty seamless and no effort required.

Can I ask what is the need for this 1.5 update couldn't they just wait for the 2.0, cause it's not really a necessity is it?

They are releasing it in preperation for the rest of the features. It's pretty normal for companies to roll out updates like this. Plus there is no use leaving the update lying around if it's ready to launch. There could be some major fixes they want to address.

Doesn't really matter the reason why, just be happy we're getting an update (Y)

why feel bad about this? let them release more updates, and smaller ones each time at that. doesn't bother me none and could be a nice one with the extra resolutions.

No point in waiting really, it wouldn't change anything if they waited 2 months and released it then. If it's ready release it, i'm happy about this update, it fixed things that needed fixing and then some.

Yeah, the only thing i'm really excited about is last.fm which won't be coming until fall :(

I also like the fact they are gonna take away some of the endless clicking to get somewhere. And the auto reconnect when you get kicked out of a party

Yeah I love all the services they're adding, I actually want more of them.

I'd love to see YouTube, Spotify and maybe even Flickr support. Would be cool if more games added photo and replay support to upload your gaming moments. And Spotify just plain kicks ass, plus it's a thorn in Apple's side so I'm sure MS wouldn't have a problem supporting them :p

my xbox has been whining at me everytime I start it to update something ...... but since I just use it to stream movies to my tv I don't worry about it

I'm all for smaller and quicker updates instead of bigger and longer ones. Why wait a year or more? If they make them smaller and every few months it's better overall I think.

Bigger updates are more complex and more things can go wrong with them.

So is the "beta tester" update coming on August 11th or is this the LIVE update? Thats what my question is. I honestly believe the Beta tester update is coming on August 11th since they told us all testers will be notified by July 31st.

I thought this update wasn't going to contain facebook. last.fm or twitter.

This one is going to contain account management, video option improvements etc???

Yep I was right - "Facebook, Last.fm and Twitter will arrive in the fall"

Nope, it's the full update for everybody.

And Major Nelson is saying on Twitter that we'll all know this week if we got in. That's a full 2 weeks worth of testing.

The 'preview' isn't meant to be a 'test' though, is it? I thought it was exactly that, a limited preview of the full release for people interested in getting the update early.
