Kushan
Cool had me worried there for a second. It is a darker picture from the 720p setting for sure, but I can fix that with the TV options. Try adjusting the colour range settings, it's likely that your display is reporting that it's capable of the extended colour pallete, which does tend to look a bit darker (But actually gives you better colours). DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 3, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted August 3, 2009 Clearing the Hard Drive?s Cache No Longer Hidden for the 360b>Surfing around the upcoming Dashboard Update that is due to come out in 2 weeks, there are some nice additions and changes that i?ve noticed so far. One of the things that caught my attention is the ability to clear the cache of the hard drive. Before getting the update installed, that feature was hidden and required a code to be input. By going to the Hard Drive?s Menu, there will be an option where you can delete the HD?s cache. By clearing the Hard Drive?s cache of your XBOX 360, you are removing all of the title updates that were installed. This feature was added due to some people?s inability to download title updates and dashboard updates. In the new dashboard preview, Microsoft has recommended clearing the cache if you have problems with Xbox Live. More news and information about the new dashboard update to come soon! http://www.justpushstart.com/2009/08/02/cl...en-for-the-360/

scokem
You shouldn't do that in any case, the other console will be locked out of live until the update officially releases if you connect a hard drive from a console that has the update to it. I don't know if the same would occur with a memory card. To answer regarding doing it with a memory card - no it doesn't cause any problems... I'm in the update and I've still put my profile and saves on my memory card and used them on my brother's and girlfriend's consoles on live without any issues. As for the point someone else made regarding avatar props - they are stored locally under a new entry on the memory manager "Avatar Items" (iirc) but when I've taken my profile to another console, I've not copied that as I figure that might cause issues with a non-beta NXE not knowing wtf it is. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 4, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted August 4, 2009 360 Dashboard Update: Microsoft's Reasons For Netflix Lite by Russ Frushtick Netflix for Xbox Live is getting an update on August 11th. Currently in order to add new movies to your queue, you have to hop on a PC and update the queue manually, with changes appearing on the 360 within moments. The 360 dashboard update on August 11th makes the process a lot easier, allowing you to browse from a selection of movies in a handful of categories. You can select and watch any of these movies instantly, or select from your instant queue, as usual. It's not, however, as full-featured as the Netflix website when it comes to finding the movie you want. For example, if you have a specific movie in mind, you're usually out of luck. There's no way to search alphabetically through the Netflix instant watch library on the 360. You're also limited to the most recent movies added for to each category, so if the Top 50 aren't doing it for you, you'll have to go to your PC to delve deeper. So why the limited feature set? Xbox Live Marketplace has already demonstrated that a large database of content can be organized in an effective way. So why not bring that style over to Netflix? I asked Ben Smith, Director of Program Management for Xbox Live, who lead the team that designed the new Netflix update (among others). Specifically regarding the reasons for limiting Netflix on Xbox Live browsing functionality, it seems like it was a decision of form over function: "When we looked at Netflix...we thought about that experience when you go to a video rental store and you see this amazing visual display of movie jackets. We wanted to bring that experience from the physical world and into the entertainment experience. Maybe bring it a little bit away from that functional world where you have alphabetization, that type of thing." The question is what people are looking for when they come to the Xbox to watch something. Smith had some thoughts on the matter: "I think when people come to Xbox they're not really looking so much for functional, they really want to have fun, they want to be wowed." But he didn't rule out the possibility for browsing updates in the future: "If we find out that people really think it's hard and they really want to find all movies that begin with "B" or something like that, we'll definitely go down that path. With Marketplace we did that?there was kind of a compromise." And in case you're wondering about a Netflix conspiracy, holding back the Xbox 360 version so as not to discourage people from going to the Netflix site, Smith is quick to deny anything unseemly: "[Netflix] wants to have an amazing experience on Xbox, just like we do. There isn't any of that higher-level business strategy that's getting in the way of that experience." So there you have it. If people make a big enough stink we might see a more full-featured browsing experience on Netflix for 360, but until then it's still a pretty major improvement from what we've been working with since NXE launched. http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/08/04/...r-netflix-lite/
spenser.d
Oh I think the new Netflix update is fantastic. There are a ton of great movies available to watch instantly that I would never have known about before this update. Now that I can just see them all listed right there, it brings a lot more information a lot faster than just going to the website with no idea what I really want to watch. If there is a specific movie I want to watch, I'll take 8 seconds out of my normal web browsing time and add it online quickly. -Spenser

Kushan
Man, how I long for Netflix or a similar service here in the UK. We were supposed to be getting Sky this month, but it has went oddly quiet. Hopefully we'll get it soon and at a reasonable price. And maybe down the line they'll integrate their new MSN player service that they launched this week. Ji@nBing
The Hollywood/TV studios really need to come out of the dark ages with their licensing terms. We live in a global society these days, there is no reason why it should be so difficult to get licensing to stream these shows internationally. Netflix should be available anywhere in the world. Same with Hulu.

We live in a global society these days, there is no reason why it should be so difficult to get licensing to stream these shows internationally. Netflix should be available anywhere in the world. Same with Hulu. But when you offer the same service globally, it's hard to justify charging the Europeans more for it. That's why they like to do things a little differently in different areas of the world.
