Hah, yeah. I bought Assassins Creed off Ebay for AU$20 delivered. Used, but perfect quality disc/manual. Can't beat that (not to mention I wouldn't have the HDD space for it).

WTF is this ****?

Seriously?

I thought the pricing sounded good a few pages back, I must of misread something! Goes to show you yet again retail distribution pounds digital distribution in pricing...

well ?19.99 is the price for the 'platinum' range in the UK so i think thats fair

Yes, when games arenew to the platinum range> they start off at ?19.99. Most of these games are from launch however, and can be bought for less than ?10!

If you don't like the pricing, go buy it somewhere else. Not a big deal. I wouldn't have a problem dropping $30 for quite a few of those titles if I had the hard drive room, and a job :p

$30 for those games, that's ridiculous. You can find them easily for $10-15 on your local Craigslist.

Or GameStop, although Test Drive still goes for almost $30 around here used.

I didn't sign up for the beta (I thought I might as well just wait for final) so I'm really interested to see what new clothes they have. My understanding is that they will be adding more over time so I'm guessing that the choice will be quite limited to start with.

I want to try and hold out from buying anything until they put up something really good..... I doubt I'll be able to do that.

I'm pretty sure Major Nelson said they would be adding top brands such as Roxy, Adidas, Nike etc.

Surely if they are going to sell games over xbox live then shouldnt they be cheaper? Spotted Assasins creed for ?19.99 but its on Amazon for just over ?10. I know they can't give games away but I would rather pay ?10 and wait for delivery/drive to store than hand over another ?9 for no reason. Not to mention the whole physical item argument.

Remember, the prices are probably kept high for 2 reasons:

1) Publishers. Publishers are going to want a piece of this action and they're likely not going to be happy with Microsoft selling their games for less than the RRP. They let stores get away with it because in those instances, store discounts come from that store's pockets, not the publisher's pockets and if they didn't, stores wouldn't allocate much shelf-space to their products.

2) Microsoft themselves cannot risk upsetting retailers. If digital content was always cheaper than retail, it'd dent their sales quite a bit and they'd be less inclined to stock Microsoft software and, more importantly, hardware. Microsoft needs those retail channels, so its easier for them to charge more to let retail chains have an advantage.
