acnpt
And Major Nelson is saying on Twitter that we'll all know this week if we got in. That's a full 2 weeks worth of testing. Then if any major bugs show up, they can just delay the release, as its not exactly going to be a groundbreaking release anyway.
coresx
Just a hype generator. I doubt they would risk it with an unfinished test build. Likely they are testing on their side with servers, tracking and such.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 21, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted July 21, 2009 It's the exact same situation they did with the NXE people. You get the full update but earlier than everyone else. It's probably to help the load they face on launch day as well. Rolling the NXE update out last time was smooth as hell, it's really no surprise they want to repeat that. @acnpt, nobody said it was going to include the social features. Elessar
Two posts gave me the impression that the posters may have believed this update was going to contain it. It's been confirmed (by Nelson I think) that this update will NOT include the social features. Those will be coming later this fall.
Massiveterra
so when are we all going to watch Machine Girl and Tokyo Gore Police while making stupid comments together on XBL? Neowin science theater 3000
Sethos
One question as I haven't really read up in all the features - This theatre business where you can watch something with your friends ( Which I find brilliant and have talked about for ages amongst friends ), will this only include crap you download off Marketplace and streaming videos? Because us Danes don't have access to anything streamed and watching game trailers together isn't really exciting.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 21, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted July 21, 2009 Yeah it is only content available on Marketplace and Netflix.
Vortex566
Great just need to get a bigger HDD for the 360 and I am well away. I love the idea of games on demand I would like to see digital distribution take off sooner rather then later. Is it confirmed that we in the UK will see games on demand? gigapixels Veteran Posted July 22, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 22, 2009 Does anybody know the details of the theater feature? Like do both people need access to it, or can it just be the host? My friend is a Netflix subscriber but I'm not, so I'm wondering if we'll be able to watch Netflix stuff together anyway. That would be really cool. George P Global Moderator Posted July 22, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted July 22, 2009 Well, I think they'll be trying to expand marketplace as much as possible in the rest of the world. It's not really that MS can't offer more, it's just that licensing is probably a nightmare at this point. But if only the host had access to the video, then he'd basically be acting as a streaming server for the rest of the people. You'd need a good chunk of bandwidth to pull that off. Instead of everyone had access, then each person would be downloading off of MS's servers and only the party/chat would be shared basically. That's a more balanced way of doing it. This is correct, it's part of the Zune rebrand of the video marketplace (going global, or at least, more global).
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 22, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted July 22, 2009 Disappointing :/ What were you expecting? To stream your physical dvd's online to your friend? If you really want to do that, both put the movie in your 360s and press play at the same time. Voila :p

Voila :p And then you might as well eliminate the entire feature because people could just press start at the same time during a chat. It's a great option and it's not asking much to extend the feature to our own content, like we both had a DVD or an identical source file.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted July 22, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted July 22, 2009 Auch we all know why you really want it Sethos, all your camera phone quality porn. Download Skype and use the Share Screen feature, play your movie with VLC and now you're sorted. I just saved you paying for a Netflix subscription. Give me some love now. bangbang023 Veteran Posted July 23, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 23, 2009 There are legal issues with allowing you to stream your videos to other people. They open up a can of worms where the copyright holders can accuse them of encouraging and allowing the distribution and/or public showing of copyrighted material without permission. Not to mention the bandwidth issues of streaming at a decent quality to one or more people.

I was actually going to make the same argument, but then you can have friends over and you watch a dvd together also. That's not illegal and they never paid for the content either. I'm not sure where it borders on "piracy" if they let you share on XBL and why it's not allowed, but I assume that is the reason, and they also don't want to lose those sales either. I hope that wasn't a response to me, because I was talking about when all the 'viewers' had the movie, like you'd pop in a DVD movie at both ends or you both had the same source file.
