The Secret of Monkey Island Remake

Recommended Posts

So who's played/playing the remake?

Pretty awesome having voice acting in it now. You can press F10 whilst playing to revert to the old version at that exact same point, it's a nice touch (although you lose voice acting if you play with old).

I've not got the new Monkey Island game yet, I was put off it, but I've been hearing some good words...

Excellent! I remember having this on 12 floppy disks on the Amiga 1200! Can't remember how far I got though - downloading the demo now!

the Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge was 12 disc on amiga, the first was only 4. i hope they also do remakes of the other 2d M.I games as i have only played the first properly

Press F10 for the classic? Oh booz, I totally missed that one. I've played and finished it btw, absolutely loved it - AGAIN! :D

I've got (and love) every single MI game! My favorite is definately MI3 though.

Yeah you can switch between classic/modern on the fly by pushing F10, it's such a cool feature. I keep doing it all the time just to remind myself how the area im in looked in the original :p

does the steam version have big ass black bars on all 4 sides of the image when run at 1920x1080? i bought it on live and thats really annoying plus the pad controls are slow and inaccurate, it took about 3 tries to shoot guybrush to monkey island :hmmm:

Well you're running at 1920x1200 on the PC :p So no it doesn't have black borders.

And buying this on XBLA was a crime, Monkey Island belongs on the PC!

It runs perfect on 1920x1200 on the PC. But if I goto classic mode, yes it letterboxes it - no surprise.

And OMG that's cool. Now i'm flipping between classic/remake every 5 seconds :woot: lol.

Okay, putting it down now. :p

lol. i just bought it yesterday and completed it today. :D used to play it all the time when i was younger. i had no idea you could revert to the classic mode (not that i would want to play it in that mode) but for comparison's sake i'll go back and take a look to remind me of how much has improved.

i played it at 1920x1200 and oddly it has 2 black bars in game (making it 1920x1080) but not in the menu.

is your monitor 16:10 i did read on the steam forum it supports 16:9 but people didnt say if it has the bars or not, i would have got it from steam but didnt know it was on there if they redo the others i will probably get them from steam just for the mouse controls.

Actually you're right there's bars at the top/bottom as if you're watching a movie, but there's definitely no bars on the sides.

Bought it via Steam, and it took me 4 hours to complete. Loved every second of it, being able to switch back to the original version has to be one of the best ideas yet for a remake.

Couple of slight issues I found, clicking on the very edges of the screen was a tad unresponsive, and dialogue selection only worked if you clicked on the lower half of the text.

Shame Lucasarts didn't add Steamworks Achievements too, but ah well.

Does anybody know how to change the language of this game? I put it in French, thinking there would also be French acting, but now I see subtitles in French and the characters speak English, this is really annoying! Now I can't seem to do anything about it

Ya, I bought it. I do in general like it but I had a hell of a time getting it to run properly the first time. I would select new game and it would either go to the opening sequence for a second then kick me out to the menu again or it would just show a black screen. In the end a reinstall of sp3 is what fixed it.

As for the game itself, while I do like the voice acting, it just seems choppy to me because it's going with the subtitles. It just doesn't seem to flow as well as MI3, MI4 or Narwhal. I have to admit though talking to the dog was great! I also really like the new graphics and updated scenery.

I do recommend trying the new game Launch of the Screaming Narwhal as well. It is actually really well done. Just be sure to use the keyboard to walk. I loathe walking with the mouse in that game.

Yeh it doesn't even tell you that you can use the wasd keys, somehow they must have thought that using the mouse is better??!

Seems really good though, only a little way in but the humor and style is definately monkey island.

Still laughing at all the people claiming the gfx were worse than super mario or the last one.

For a 200mb download, I'd have to give this 8.5/10

The remake of The Secret Of Monkey Island is almost at 1.5gb in size. You were probably talking about the first chapter of Tales of Monkey Island, which this thread is not about.

Now, if they could only remake "Day of the Tentacle", that would be so awesome!

I want to see Bernard, Hoagie and Laverne again!!

Damn straight!!! I'd love that. Possibly THE BEST adventure game ever!

The Secret of Monkey Island SE is pretty cool, I've had quite a chuckle at the jokes running through it. Imagine it's exactly the same as I am playing it on 360.

  • 2 weeks later...
Out on the iPhone now. Sweet port, looks identical to the PC version, but the water isn't as well animated.

Anyone else pick this up on the iPhone? It's pretty awesome.

Although I broke my iPhone today and it won't be working again till midweek :pinch:

Yip...THAT would be cool.

What would be cooler is more good quality adventure games.

Lol, I remember that one joke in MI 1 about inserting disks 20 - 22, or something! That ****ed me off!
