Remove drive icon from desktop?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to remove drive icons from the desktop?

I am dual booting on a PC with OSX and Windows, i had to unhide the 200mb partition created by windows which i believe contains the bootloader.

I hidden the 200mb partition in windows but it still remains in OSX, i can eject it but it comes back after restarted, the other drive is called Untitled and contains my windows stuff, i don't need this either, is there anyway to remove them?

Hmmm I have never heard of Windows creating a bootloader partition on a Mac. You may want to look in Disk Utility and find out what that is. It could be an extra partition you don't need. I have over 30 clients running OSX and Windows and they only show the Macintosh HD and the Windows HD (BootCamp Partition).

Are you running OSX x86 by chance?

I don't think that 200 MB partition has anything to do with Boot Camp. My external drive has one too. It should be hidden though.

Edit Sorry, every Mac formatted drive seems to have a 128 MB hidden partition as well. The 200 MB one is gone once you get rid of the Boot Camp partition. In any case the 200 MB partition should be hidden, that still stands.

yes OSX86,

Win7 created the 200mb partition, i unhidden it within 7 to apply easyBCD settings for dual boot, when complete i re-hidden it in 7 but cant get rid of it in OSX. thanks for the tips.

Volumizer works wonders for hiding icons. :)

I use it on mine, so it makes it less cluttered. Although for some reason since I got my system back from the shop, I have been a bit obsessive about keeping them off the desktop and now on the dock. Waste of space I know, but it is just a quirk of mine.

Anyway, you can find Volumizer here.
