Halo: Reach & ODST are the last in the series from Bungie on 360

Bungie senior designer Lars Bakken has said that Halo Reach will probably be the last Halo game made for Xbox 360.

According to and talk he had with CVG, Microsoft may have other ideas.

?In terms of a platform for Halo games made by Bungie, yes. I can?t answer that question for Microsoft though,? he said.

?Whether they have something in the works or not, I don?t know if they?re actually ready to talk about it yet, but in terms of Bungie-produced Halo games, ODST and then Reach is probably all you?re going to get.?

Didn't they say they were done after Halo 3?

(Not that I'm complaining, of course :p)

There's a lot of "probably"s in that quote.

They'll cave when they can't come up with an original idea and the money starts to run out.

huh huh and wasn't Anthony Hopkins supposed to retire after that movie he made with Cuba Gooding Jr ten years ago?

even if they don't make any more of them, i'm sure tha Halo franchise will go on somehow.

Some other dev could make more Halo if MS wants, or they could go for a new IP that might be in the works. At some point I think it's fine to want to end things and stop the milking. Unless Halo turns into the FF of shooters, which could happen I guess.

I'd love to see Bungie focus on a different universe ... Wishful thinking I know but Bungie are really skilled developers and it's sad to see them stuck in that generic Halo groove, imo.

Not just on the 360, but at all, according to Bungie.

Good. I want to see them move on and do something great in a new IP. I'm sure 343 Studios can handle it with the people they've brought in.

I don't absolutely believe that, but I hope it's true. It would be nice to see something NOT Halo coming from Bungie.

Not according to this quote, plus it would be stupid to never make another Halo game after the 360.

Where's your source that they'll never make another Halo game? If that really was the case, it would have been huge news.

That's a tad harsh, don't you think? Bungie isn't just about Halo, they have had other franchises previously.

Anyway, I doubt they'll never do another one, ever :p I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up revisiting it one day, either on the next generation or the generation after that.

This just means the next Bungie Halo game will be for the next Xbox

As for new IP. we knew that since the day they became "independent"

Yup.

They said ODST would be their last Halo game and look what happened ;)

Seeing how ODST and Reach are on their own different games, albeit part of the Halo universe, I think that's fine. If you have a massive universe that covers scifi type games which thus aren't stuck just on earth but span planets and so on, you can keep that going longer. I mean hell, star wars anyone?

They did say the main halo story would be done with 3, and it is, these two other games are, well ODST is a side story and Reach is a prequel right? So if the "universe" is big enough you can do side storys, prequels, spin-offs, and so on.

Milking, I guess, but it's no different than say Square with FF or DQ where each one is it's own game just sharing the title. If anything true milking would be like what's going on with Metal gear.

That's the thing that gets me, people saying Halo is "milked".

But just for comparison sake, we've had 6 guitar heros, 3 rock bands and 4 call of dutys all so far this generation. With more titles in each series coming this Winter. (plenty more examples out there too)

As for Halo? We've had Halo 3 and Halo Wars.

Yeah that's really milking a franchise

Well, I hope, and believe that Reach will be the halo game to end all halo games.

Of course it's a prequel, but imo, it's the best halo story of them all.

The fall of reach, that is.

I'm assuming the game revolves around more of that timeline than just reachs invasion.

Now if it's going to have truly next-gen graphics like bungie says, it will be a treat.

The wording is key here.

It may well the last halo game BUNGIE make, but it probably will not be the last Halo game we see.

Remember, MS own the Halo IP, so it doesn't matter what Bungie do in the future, MS can still get a different studio to make a different Halo game.
