Sethos
It came at a perfect time, in our ArmA II clan we're having a downtime period due to holidays etc. so the remaining players have started to play this game, most of them couldn't afford the original price but this morning every single one bought the game. This is the best RTS I have ever played, hands down! The realism, the fun and the interaction with direct control just makes this an epic experience. deletedxyz
Sethos, you're a military sim beast! I'm thinking of picking it up. How does the game compare to Company of Heroes?
Sethos
Is it that obvious  ? It's difficult putting Company of Heroes and Men of War head to head. They are both so different, Company of Heroes focuses on the general RTS crowd with base building, real health bars and a basic rock / paper / scissor system. Men of War is a whole different ballpark, you have a realistic damage system meaning a Tiger tank is only as good as the guy controlling it. A light / medium tank can easily take out a tiger with a single shot to the engine block or a clean shot from the side. You can damage the tracks of tanks which then requires repairs, same goes for the engine, turret and even the hull which can be either pierced or completely destroyed and all this depends on which type of shell you use, the angle, the range and a heap of other factors. Of course heavy tanks can take more shots and especially at greater ranges, Medium / Light tanks just can't penetrate the armour of a heavy tank at long ranges. You have a "Commandos" like gameplay when using infantry, the way you move them around. You can put men behind cover everywhere, not just place them behind something but an actual cover system where they peak around corners or above walls. You also have a skill based system where some men are more proficient with certain types of weapon. Some can see further ( Spotters, scouts ) and some can track hidden units within bushes with binoculars ( Officer ). So nothing is just click & go, you really have to think and set up everything correctly. You have an engineer unit with an accompanying truck which is filled with tank traps, sandbags, AP / AT mines, fuel cans ( When tanks run out of fuel ), barbed wire etc. etc. Every unit in the game has limited ammo and an inventory, meaning you can even scrounge stuff off enemy soldiers like a new helmet since infantry lose them quite often, ammo, grenades and even new weapons. Combine this entire box of goodies with direct control ie you CAN ( Not a requirement ) control tanks and infantry with your Keyboard and the mouse for the weapons / turrets, you have an amazing cocktail. Direct Control is the glue of this game. Just have to mention one flaw, the voice acting is TERRIBLE! You will laugh your ass off. It's actually so bad you will think it's intentional. So this game is all about realism and micro-management, two things a lot of people don't like. I think it's the most elaborate and fulfilling RTS game I've ever played, it's even in my Top 5 "Favourite Game of All Times" list. It's not my cup of tea but it looks like great fun. Company of Heroes is where I draw the line with me and RTS's. I'm more of a Action-RPG guy. The graphics look great and the gameplay is easy to pick up.
