ZakO
Hi, My laptop just broke so I'm in the need of a new 13" laptop with a long battery life, I've never really considered buying a Mac because I don't particularly like OSX (I spent a long time using it when porting some software last year). However, it's in my budget, seems to suite the spec I need, and I can run Windows on it now anyway. Apple claim "7 hours battery life" (...) on the Unibody Macbook Pro but realistically what battery life would I actually get (using Windows/Visual Studio, or OSX/Xcode)? Are the regular white MacBooks supposed to get the same battery life as the Unibody one? The specs seem the same, but they've taken off the battery life claim (...). Does anyone also know the best price (UK) I can get the default-spec Unibody MacBook Pro + 3yr Warranty for? Thanks in advance.
hjf288
That battery life quote is under OS X not windows.. I think 4 - 6 hours was observed on windows
NeoXY
Well someone tested a 15 inch MacBook Pro a few weeks ago and actually got 8 hours of battery life as opposed to 7 as Apple is claiming. But all he was doing was using a browser and went through a cycle of sites every 20 seconds. (Half brightness, wifi on, everything else off I believe) When he pushed it, Photoshop, doing work etc, I think he got about.....5 hours? I will try and find the link for you. Not sure about best price in the UK, but education discount takes about 10% off the sticker price of the machine. --edit-- http://anandtech.com/mac/showdoc.aspx?i=3580&p=1 thats the review. Fid
I get about 5ish (probably 6) hours if I'm just browsing in Mac OSX... I haven't really monitored it but it is a *lot* longer than all my other laptops I've ever had. I think the time they specify for the 13" Pro, is only for the pro (as it's non-removable)... the normal 13" will have less battery power but can be removed. Not sure about the price... but have a look on Apple's website (particularly their education prices). TBH, I've never really seen Apple stuff cheaper in other stores such as PC World. If you're going the education way, you definitely won't find a cheaper price and they give you 3 months warranty for about ?50 quid.

RuudJacobs.NET
For edu price, add -edu after /uk http://store.apple.com/uk-edu/confi...?mco=NjcxMTc2Mg
DrCheese
aye. You also get even more discounted prices if your a university student, but you need to be accessing the store from a university's internet connection, else it just kicks you back to the "ordinary" prices.
