Does XIII (Thirteen) Video Game Work In Vista?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know if the FPS game XIII (Thirteen) works in Vista?

It is the cel-shaded game.

I found my copy the other day (the good old days of 4 disk installs) and I tried to install it, and after Disk 3 the installer just stopped, said nothing just quit, and nothing happened except I had a blank Shortcut on my desktop that did nothing, and when I went to delete it explorer told me the file did not exist, and it did not disappear until I restarted my comp... And no files in the install location... Retried the installation and the same thing...

I did some Googling before I started this thread, and I do not see anything specific about the game not working in Vista, but honestly there is not much specific about this game at all. I found some guys site who made a custom patch combining the three official patches and adding some of his own fixes, but that was about it, and it was dated like 2006 or something...

So really just curious more than anything else. It is not a big deal if I cannot get it working, was just feeling nostalgic.

Oh, running Vista Ultimate 64, A Nvidia GTX 285, Creative Fatality Sound Card, everything up to date completely.

Open the first disk in Windows Explorer, and change the installer to run in compatiability mode of WinXP SP2, that usually works. I know it did on "The Bard's Tale", however after it's installed you'll want to set the game itself to run in compatiability mode as well.

Nice will try that!! Feel dumb it is that easy of a fix, I mean I knew about running games in compatability mode but had no idea you can do the same with the installer!

Thanks, will report back a bit later to see if that worked...

So okay, gave that a whirl, and still did not work...

During Disk 2, I get a pop up that asks me (and I am going off memory but it is pretty close)...

Do you want to keep the saved files and Data for XIII?

The two options are Yes and No.

If I choose Yes, installer just quits and nothing happens, same thing if I choose No.

So still not working. Not sure what else could be done. :iiam:

And thanks guys. (Y)

I remember liking this game a whole lot, never got to finish it, and just figured I would install it and play it here and there.

I linked you to post #2, my post.

i was editing my previous post by the time :) i meant that it needed a few more steps than just changing the compatibility settings for it to work, which is why it didnt work even after changing just the compatibility settings

Thats an excellent game - shame they decided to not release the sequel and complete the story. Not enough copies of the original game sold, although the same might happen as it has with Beyond Good and Evil - that didn't sell well enough yet they have decided to release a sequel at long last.

Thanks Yogi. (Y)

Those intructions worked exactly as they said, had to rename setup once I launched it, but it all installed no issues, was very surprised it just ran through the whole setup too, never asked me for the location of each disk.

So XIII is now installed on my computer. Just wish it had more graphics options, I wanted to max it out for real for real. LOL
