Actually in an article I was reading, this kind of slashing only furthers the piracy problem. The impression given by the article was that retail exclusives are one of the best ways to fight piracy, by offering value that cannot be had through digital theft. Even if it's something as stupid as a small but high quality poster in the standard edition, however a free in-game unlockable works best.

Cliffy B of Epic mentioned that used games are sapping the industry as well, killing off much revenue that could be going to the publishers and developers. Once again, a good solution they devised was adding a simple/free addition to every store copy; with Gears of War 2 they included the Flashback Map Pack free with every retail copy of GoW2, and making it available as a purchasable DLC as well, which helps recup some of the money, but rewarding everyone who buys retail.

A smart solution in my opinion would be to include things such as extra perks/weapons if you purchase the game retail (or on Steam if that's an option), which would severely handicap used game users and pirates

TL:DR

Punishing pirates isn't always the best solution, more companies need to start rewarding honest buyers with exclusives that cannot be obtained otherwise

Yea my problem is the debate between myself about digital and retail.

I just recently made all my games digital, the only games that are physical copies now are the 360/PS3 games as well as Collectors Editions of some. The problem I have is sure I want collectors editions sometimes, but at the same time I want that game to be digital. I want everything to be able to be accessed on the computer. Which as of this moment I can't do that, you can't buy a collectors edition on Steam and get the same items as you would retail. I wish they could do that, but nope.

When you already have a PC it's a shame to buy a console.. unless you're swimming in money, in that case, you can send your unwanted cash to me.

Yeah, I usually like to swim in pools filled with $200. How much was your PC again?

Good. Everyone should be using a console for games by now :p

I will gladly fully switch to my PS3 and 360 for gaming if the developers allow ALL games to be played with a Keyboard and Mouse optionally to a controller. Until that happens PC gaming will always be superior in my eyes :p

This is what leads to more piracy.

Games with online multiplayer do well. Cod4 did excellent for pc sales. There is no reason to treat pc'ers like this. If they treat us like the bottom dwellers, why are they then surprised that we wouldn't pirate?

Also, for the argument of whats cheaper, PC gaming is cheaper in the long run, easy.

Console gaming requires = HDTV ( 600+ cause if its not 1080p whats the point) + console ( which is more in the 300 range, not 200.) + more expensive game

PC gaming requires = Monitor (240-350?) + a pc ( I can build a very nice one right now for 400 which could own the 360 ) + and a 10 dollar cheaper game ( or even free if the companies continue to treat pc'ers like crap lol ) .. plus everything else your pc can allow you to do that a console can't.

While not much of a difference, the the computer is obviously the best choice, but to each their own.

After the guy at EB told me about this I raced home to look at it and get ready to preorder.

Seconds after reading about this shocker, i'm not even going to buy it now. (N)

And I DO buy a lot of collectors edition boxes. What a slap in the face.

With the way gaming is going most of your friends and colleagues are probably gaming on consoles nowadays, that alone tends to be the number one reason for people to choose A or B, what's the point in playing on the PC when all your friends are on the console? Regardless of how good your PC is.

Obviously that doesn't apply to everyone, but it's a massive reason multiplayer console gaming is booming. You and all your friends enjoy the exact same experiences easily together.

Everyoen I know who has a console and not a pc right now seems to be bored of their console, and keeps saying they wish they had a better pc.... that's just the crowd i hang out with maybe. But with the power pc's are putting out for the price they are going for now, I think more are realizing how good a pc can really be. Too bad the developers wont give us the time of day. We have a couple good companies that support us still, but most still treat us like the red headed step child.

PC gamers don't need friends. I kid, after all I'm a pc gamer myself.

Have u taken a look at this? i need to order mine

Yes I'm aware of these adapters but from I read mixed options about them. Some said they work great others say mouse control feels weird. After all it only emulates the 360 gamepad input through the keyboard and mouse, that alone makes me skeptical as I doubt it's as good as native support. But I have to test these myself I guess.....

The twisted irony here is that if they release the special editions on the PC, people would more likely consider buying the game legit. I know I wouldn't pirate the game if I got NV goggles with a legit copy! (Note: I'm not a pirate, so I'll still buy it).

I'll always play FPS on a PC, I just can't seem to play as well on a console as compared to a PC. I have CoD4 for PC and PS3...I've hardly played the PS3 one. MW2, hmph don't even think I'll bother with it....looks god but its just another shooter.

Console gamers should just stop arguing about piracy. I've seen way too many [X360] tags on game torrents for Xbox 360 owners to argue that PC gaming is dying due to piracy.

The Prestige effort is the night goggles box, while the Hardened edition includes a behind-the-scenes DVD, an art book and a code to download the first Call of Duty game.

Why in the world are people complaining about not getting night goggles?! Do you really want to add a pair to replace your awesome sunglasses like these?!

For starters it didn't cost me a US Dollar, it cost me an Israeli Shekel, quite a lot of them actually, around three thousand.

It's just a saying, don't take it literally.

Is that not a bit of a paradox?

Not really. Gamers, like everyone else, like to get some value for money once in a while.

If you've been eagerly waiting for a talked-about title, buy it on release day for $50-60 (or had it pre-ordered), install it and get something that looks and feels like a 360 game running in an emulator, you wouldn't be so quick to buy a game from that publisher/studio/franchise again. You may not necessarily turn to piracy, but you certainly won't buy it until you've played it or seen it patched up to an acceptable standard. In either case, both sides lose.

Drop the price and increase the quality, not the other way around.
