Mr_Edwardo
Hi, I have an issue with downloading from Steam, I've noticed it a few times now. When I begin downloading a game it'll always go at the max speed for my connection - 1.2MB/s However after (roughly) 30 mins, it'll slow down to 150KB/s and stay there fairly consistently. Now I've tested to see if its my ISP throttling the connection, but everything else is going at full speed though so this can't be the case. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's gonna take me forever to download Company of Heroes at 150KB/s :( Thanks Ed
ToneKnee
Download through the night time. I don't have a problem with steam unless my ISP is throttling me. But I've noticed that when they do, they throttle certain ports more than others which could be the problem here.
marc2003
steam can really **** me off at times. whenever i download a free demo it always maxes out my connection. yet when i download something i've paid for, it quite often goes much slower. and i know it's not my isp throttling. You know I had the same problem for the longest time... But it fixed itself somehow, because I do not have that problem anymore

That might be because loads of other people are downloading the game you are. Steam can only have so much bandwidth, and it costs them literally **** loads to do it. People who complain about Steam should be respectful, back when Steam was first launched, it was slow as hell.
Mr_Edwardo
If it was slow all along, I'd understand. But the fact that this morning it's been going along nicely at 1.2MB and it seems pretty suddenly that's been slashed to under 200KB/s. Do they cap speeds depending on time do you think? I might try changing my download regions around...
trag3dy
I don't know if this has ever been pointed out but from my experience with steam Steam it throttles itself based on your network activity. If you're doing a lot of web browsing, or playing a Steam game while trying to download a different game off Steam it will slow down a lot. So it's good to let it download overnight or while you aren't home.
