I'm starting to decide whether I should upgrade to DVR or not, but the thought of having to pay monthly service just to record programs annoys me, which is why I never bought it. So, my question is: do ALL DVRs require you to pay a monthly service fee to record TV programs? Are there any DVRs are out there that work just like VCRs, where you can record anything for free? But there are other alternatives such as Tivo (monthly fee but less) or a Moxi. Just remember, if you buy one of the other boxes you will need to get a cable card so that you can get all of the programming from your provider.
