Microsoft ramps up its offensive against cheaters, hackers and nudists xbox 360 live Lazygamer

The latest Major Nelson podcast has Stephen Toulouse, Xbox Live Policy and Enforcement chief, chatting about the rules and regulations around using Xbox Live as well as letting us know that they are really ramping up the protection level thanks to an increase in phishing and hacking attempts.

According to Stephen if you get caught hacking or phishing online now you will be banned from Xbox Live as well as your console receiving a life long ban and any other console you have used will also be included in that ban*. He then goes on to warn the violators that if the offense is serious enough then the punishment will not end there and they will be asking law enforcement to drop past your house and have a chat?

Remember logging into someone elses account and using their credit card details is fraud and you can be put in jail for that.

In other news he also stated that appearing in front of your Xbox Live Videocam nude is against Xbox Live policies and you will be banned for that as well, so hopefully no more fat guys in your UNO lobby.

He did mention that you can set your video footage to only be viewed by those on your friends list so if you really have to play strip UNO online you still can, but obviously Microsoft does not endorse that so keep it under your hat.. er if you are wearing a hat that is.

*Microsoft will only ban consoles you have used if they can prove you did something illegal on that console as well

Now just ban Gamertags for playing copies as well

But yeah good move should be zero policy on all consoles, weed out the kids and immature idiots.

What's this ban on nudity! Damn prudes! :broken:

id be ok with this if the female to male nude ratio balanced out a bit... but so far... the only thing i see when playing Uno is a bunch of Willys.... :x I think last time i checked it out the guy had his cam pointed at his pc which of course was playing nothing but clips of porn... naturally my wife comes downstairs at that time to question the types of activities I do while playing xbox...

Wait, so it bans all the consoles that user has played on? What if you took your console to some LAN party and some sick ****er played there and then got banned?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just read the *

Your problem, just in the same way if you leave your mobile lying around and someone decides to send a **** ton of abuse to your ex :p

edit: I misread your comment, I thought you were just complaining if someone else gets your console banned through your gamertag!

This article (particularly the title) is actually pretty misleading. I listened to that entire podcast last night and Stephen Toulouse never once said that they were "ramping up" anything.

In fact, what he actually said was that dealing with phishers doesn't take up a lot of time for his team, he just wanted people to be aware of how phishing scams tend to work and how Microsoft deals with it. Then he talked about how nudity on the Xbox Live Vision camera is dealt with (It's an instant ban if you're caught and has always been the case, even when its done mutually and in private), how you can report people, etc. He didn't mention cheaters at all (nor does the article, but its title does?).

It was a public information broadcast, nothing more.

Wait, so I can't play UNO nude with my Live Cam on any more?

Screw that, I'm not renewing.

why only UNO?

sometimes i think that there needs to be an extra pair of X's in 'Xbox' ....

What has that got to do with anything?

I guess he thinks Sony would not ban for the same behavior?

Down with cheaters on all platforms... especially in all the Socom games.
