X-Wing Vs. Tie Fighter Making A Comeback?

With LucasArts in a re-releasing and re-making mood, with classic games on Steam and the Monkey Island remake on Xbox Live, is there anything happening with the classic X-Wing space combat series? Could be...

G4's Patrick Klepek inquired as to the future of the X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter series during an interview with LucasArts president Darrel Rodriguez, who teased us like the teasing teaser that he so obviously is.

"We don't have any announcements now, but stay tuned," said Rodriguez. "We will soon?.."

Dammit, another impending announcement announcement! Is it a re-release of the classic games, or an entirely new chapter in the series, bringing the awesome space dogfighting action up to speed with the current crop of hardware? Hell, at this point I'd be satisfied with an Xbox Live Arcade remake. Just let me shoot an X-Wing with a Tie Fighter, and vice versa, and I will be very, very pleased.

Yes!

They really gotta do something other than lego games and an MMO with the Star Wars franchise.

What I really want is a proper SP Knights of the Old Republic, but this will do also (Y)

The one thing I loved about X vs T was the menu screens, I thought they were very well done for it's time and very friendly. Alliance kinda ruined that for me. But a couple of things I would want though if they made a new game.

The feel of X vs T, the graphics of todays hardware, the ability to make your own missions, select the amount of ships, capital ships etc we want and so on.

Hopefully it'll be on the consoles only so the PC gaming crowd rips their respective appendages off :p

The console version will have puffy marshmallow Tie-Fighters and an Ewok as the hero. All cell-shaded, and in 3rd person perspective with auto aim. If you want more games ruined, keep supporting consoles.

Anyway, I've got a bad feeling about this...

I remember when I had my computer company building a 486DX2 server for a company. One of the first things I did was install Tie Fighter on it so I could see the "amazing" graphics on a system that could actually run it. It was a monster system with 8Mb of memory.

They should do the entire X-Wing series from X-Wing to X-Wing Alliance. New graphics engine. Everything else kept the same and not watered down. Oh and Steam-based multiplayer would be great.

LucasArts Teases Back-Catalog Announce; Says It Ain't X-Wing

By Owen Good, 7:00 PM on Fri Aug 7 2009

Now, they didn't say it wasn't TIE Fighter, either. But it's a pretty safe bet this Tweet from LucasArts cools off talk that a reboot of the venerable space combat sim will be announced soon.

Got a back-catalog announcement on Monday. It's not X-Wing! I'm heading THAT rumor off at the pass!

And, I mean, that's all there is to it. You can grab a list of what back-catalog titles have already been announced here, and then begin your speculationing.//

Hah, I started playing this game fairly recent actually. Still awesome as ever.

Doubt you'd see it on Xbox Live. The readme says that joypads aren't suitable as you don't have enough sensitivity. You really do pretty much need a joystick for this game tbh. (I found an application which turns your mouse into a joystick actually. Takes a bit of getting used to ,adjusting the sensitivity and learning how to zero it.)

It'd be ace if this got released on Steam, then people would probably want to play online which would be cool.
