VidER
Hi All. I am planning to buy a new Mac laptop as soon as they are shipped with the new Snow Leopard OS. But I don't want to buy one then hear that a new line of laptops is released 2 months later. So is October the right time to buy a MAC laptop? Or I should wait? I will most probably get the Mac Air. Thanks. VidER
King Antonius
The laptop line was updated about a month or two ago. Just buy yourself a mac now. If you wait since you odn't want to be outdated, then you will be waiting forever, since the machines are updated every single year. And snow leopars, you can pick that up for $30 when it is out anyways...
richardsim7
Well according to the law of averages, there should be a new one on Christmas Day... but something tells me that might not happen :p http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/ -Rich-
dewaaz
I'm purchasing a macbook in about 4 weeks, and want to know what other people think about this. AFAIK, Arrandale processors will be released towards the end of the year - but there's no guarantees Apple will being using them until their main refresh in June/July next year. Ultimately, I don't think there's anything significant going to happen to the macbook range until next year - but if someone thinks different, I'd like to hear about it :)
bob_c_b
Since the current MBP is the best selling laptop in the history of the product line, and they can barely keep up with supply, I don't think there is any reason for a "new" product right now. The new iPods should be shown in September, and there is a rumored iMac price cut for the same time frame, but I don't expect to see much else before the holidays. ccuk
I am going to take a punt and say the next refresh will be something i7 based just before or after Christmas for the MacBook Pro. Maybe i5 for the Macbook.
Brian M. Veteran Posted August 6, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 6, 2009 I very much doubt they'll switch to i7 this soon - if they do, it'll only be the high end model with an insanely high price tag.
+StevoFC MVC Posted August 6, 2009 MVC Share Posted August 6, 2009 Buy it now. Get a free iPod. Pay $9.99 for the SL update. And for the price, the Air is outdated the second you buy it...
.Kompressor
I don't see any major changes to the laptop line until Macworld in January 2010 and probably won't be available till February. Nehalem will be in the line for sure. there might be a chip speed bump or L2 cache speed bump in October...but not a major update till January/Feb. GreenInspiration
No, it's the other way around. wait until september when the ipod touch 3g come out and then buy your mac laptop. And if for some reason you don't like your ipod 3g I'll be more than happy to take it.

Pay $9.99 for the SL update. And for the price, the Air is outdated the second you buy it... ...but that does. I have the same mentality and consider upgrading my MacBook Unibody, for the sum of like 400 CAD. Doing this every year would cost me like 2000 in 5 years, which would also represent the sum of buying a brand new laptop in 5 years and selling mine for nearly 0. :)

Slated to launch in September and have been part of the back to school promotion in the past, I believe.
Brian M. Veteran Posted August 6, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 6, 2009 The free iPod Touch is available now, and is the iPod Touch 2G. If they release the iPod Touch 3G, it'll be after the back to school promotion has ended - they won't release a new product and give it away for free straight away :p. This is correct, they won't give away the new model, why would they?
sn00pie
Yeah, as always Apple uses the back to school season to suck students into buying old inventory :p I was one of those students lol

sn00pie
Well, you didn't "buy" an iPod 8gb, they gave it to you. Incorrect. I paid for it upfront and they made me send out a rebate form. Then I got the cheque 2 months later :p On that note, by old inventory, I'm not just referring to iPods. BTS promo was used to clear out plastic Macbooks for the unibody Macbooks... Freka
If I were you I would buy it now (just like I did two weeks ago :D). If they are going to do a refresh their probably going to do it sometime early next year and only to the high end of the notebook family. If you buy now you can get the free iPod Touch and the Snow Leopard update is only $10. If you wait until Snow Leopard comes out in October then you won't get the free iPod Touch because the offer expires early September. Buy it now, you won't regret ;). P.S. Don't buy the Macbook Air, get the Macbook Pro 15". Its faster and much much more practical. It is better looking too.
