Can't be bothered to drag yourself to the nearest brick-and-mortar to pick up your Xbox 360 games? Don't worry, you won't be penalized for your sloth -- this coming Tuesday, the first batch of 21 titles will be added to the Games on Demand service, a new feature in the anticipated dashboard update. There are no costs attached to these titles yet, but Microsoft says they'll be similar in price to their tangible counterparts.

We've got the full list of games posted after the break -- highlights include Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and ... Viva Pi?ata. What? We love ambulatory pi?atas! Deal with it.

yeah so it seems some of these titles won't be available in europe, like bioshock. also I kinda wonder what the prices will be in ?/? given that even the lower price point is $20. I wanna get Lego star wars but if it's a lot more than retail there isn't much point.

Only games on that list I would get would be Mass Effect and Oblivion as they are single player and would not care about needing to take a disc to a friends house for multiplayer if I wanted to plus any of the few other decent titles on that list I already own....sadly I can say I have PD0 which in retrospect is a subpar and cartoony shooter and Kameo, which was a free gift from a guy I know who works in the gov relations area of Microsoft. At least I can say I have Bioshock :)

this would not be bad for me being that the last 2 games i purchased for a console were then eaten by said console and i am getting rather perturbed about purchasing discs anyone when the console will just destroy them and make my purchase useless.

This is awesome, pretty decent prices also. I love booting games off the hard drive, when you're bored it's so much easier to deal with installed games than sift through discs (burnout/wipeout are favourite 15-30 min time killers on the PS3).

However it's a kick in the nads MS are the ones anal about their proprietary hard drives :pinch:

Great idea but MS are clearly onto a double winner with this, not only reselling slightly older titles but also increasing the need of bigger hard drives at their inflated prices.

I think this feature is great... however... until MS decides they want to be reasonable and lower the price of the hard drives I will not be buying anything other then arcade games and DLC. My 20 gb is already filling up and I refuse to pay the crazy prices MS wants for the 60 and 120 gb hds. I got a 2nd 360 (arcade) and I was lucky enough to get a used 20gb hd on ebay for $20.. even the local gamestop wanted 45... oh well.. at least the people with the biggers hds can take advantage of this feature...

If you're technically inclined you can purchase the 120GB WD Scorpio drive for a fraction of the price and just swap drives. I did it for a friend, it doesn't take long and the procedure isn't difficult at all. I believe the drive is around $50.

Yeah, but with 1TB hard drives being at under $100... Microsoft should really revamp their hard drive pricing. I'm sure if we could get something like 500GB for $100 people would be much more inclined to buy GoD.

Of course they should, my point is that he has an option to Microsoft's exorbitant prices. We shouldn't have to go this route but it is what it is.

Just went to the games on demand section and I am able to purchase CoD2, Mass Effect, Viva Pinata, Bio Shock and a few others. CoD and Oblivion are $30. I think I will pass on that :D

The list is always going to be made up of games already released, at least in this generation. It won't be until the Xbox 720 or later we'll have games release alongside retail.

But this is useful for people who missed something and don't care about owning the box, or for people who have trouble buying games at retail due to stock. Just reading comments from Neowin members who stay in the east, it's not always easy to find the games they want.
