I can't say I've tried it, I'd like to. I've got a few questions though:

1. Does winamp play it or is there a plugin available?

2. Is there an program you use to rip and encode, or is there just like a plugin for a program like CD-EX?

Cheers in advance.

if it converts to 96kbps, is that okay? some of you mentioned wma has to convert to 128 or 192kbps...I tried 192kbps and it was actually larger in size than the 192kbps mp3 file!!

Yes, it can be found here: http://www.vorbis.com/download_win.psp

Yes, as a matter of fact, I use cdex 1.4beta to encode all my Oggs.

Just incase you don't know: To change the encoder: Click the Options>Settings menu, click the Encoder tab, and select "Ogg Vorbis DLL Encoder" in the Encoder dropdown list. Play with the settigs you like. You can use well defined VBR encoding (with Min/Nominal/Max bitrate options).

I use 256kbps CBR with on the fly encoding turned off for all my ripped cds, which sounds absolutely wonderful. But 128kbps CBR still sounds better than mp3 or wma on my highend Klipsch promedia speakers, and the file size averages about half a meg smaller.

If you're used to 128kbps mp3s, you may get away well with 96kbps oggs, if you're short on disk space, though I haven't tried that myself.

The only current downside to the Ogg format is that it's not currently supported by any portable players, though that may change when the format enters 1.0 (it went to RC3 today, with an RC4 expected, though who knows when), and some of the portable makers decide to be nice and give us firmware updates.

That can happen with some files, especially if there's a lot of wideband sound in the track. This is due to the fact that Vorbis is a less "lossy" format than mp3.

For good sounding, yet decently sized files, try using 96/128/192 min/nominal/max VBR. And turn off on-the-fly-encoding, if your encoder has that option.

my enconder ? I am using the Microsoft Plus! Audio Converter

When I set it to encode to the same quality as the mp3 (192) it converts the wma to 96 which is half the size of the mp3 -n- I really couldn't hear a difference...but do you reccommend converting a 192 mp3 to a 96 wma?

Hey, if it sounds fine to you, go right ahead, I'd only suggest you disable digital rights management, as you may have problems copying the file from one computer to another.
