E65 Error, replace drive?

Recommended Posts

I bought a 2nd hand xbox 360 that worked for a few days then went ###### up and i got an E65 error 1 red flashing light, i did some reading on the internet and i managed to extract the key which looks to be legit as the checksum of the firmware was checked with some database on the internets and it says its ok.

Since its out of warranty and sold as no returns would it be possible to buy a replacement Hitachi drive from ebay, dump the firmware thats on the drive and inject the key from my drive into it?

No i do NOT intend to flash any firmware other than the legit original firmware for the drive, would Microsoft be able to detect the change of drive if it is the legit key and an otherwise untouched original non hacked firmware? am i likely to be banned?

If you can find one, a Benq drive would be quieter, and much easier to flash/dump. What you would then have to do is spoof the new drive as your old one (the xbox has to think it's the same drive, not just have the same drive key). So if the new xbox had a liteon, you would have to spoof the new Benq to make it look like a liteon. I don't know if this is possible with stock firmware though; it may only be hacked firmware which lets you spoof a drive.

I just checked, and it does actually seem to be possible, as long as you have both stock firmwares, and use Jungleflasher to spoof the new drive to a hitachi/benq (whatever the original drive is) with the drive key from the original drive. Just set the source firmware to be that of the broken drive, and the target firmware that of the new drive you bought, and then spoof to target, using just the stock firmwares obviously.
