Anyone here buy movies on xbox marketplace?

I was wondering when you pay points for a movie, how long do you get to keep it? What I mean by movie is a full featured film, like say Ironman or Watchman, or if you buy a TV series like House MD.

I've bought Heroes season 1 and 2 on XBL, it was good quality, and i have been able to download them all the time since i bought them, so i think you keep them forever.

The rights for those movie or tv series are connected to you gamertag & your console ID. of as long as you have your gamertag you will be able to download and view them. If you change console you can transfer all the media rights thru xbox.com to your new console.

I still don't know what they'll do when the release the next xbox.

Movies you are only "renting." You have 24 hours from the point when you first choose to hit Play, meaning if you download it and do not touch it, you can choose to do so days later, but as soon as you hit Play, 24 hours.

Id never buy any movie that is digitally locked into one device, what if a movie studio decides it no longer wishes for microsoft to sell these films they can just withdraw the licence and you will never be able to play that file again.

Which is pretty stupid really, because who is going to watch the same film multiple times in 24 hours? (I certainly wouldn't).

What would be better, IMO, is a "3 watches" situation, or something like that.

Yeah while an option to watch them 3 times or even keep them would be ideal, the 24 hours thing does not really bother me all that much. However that is just me and I see why other people would prefer things differently. I rarely watch a movie twice over the span of years honestly, so watching it multiple times is not really a deal breaker for me. I also look at renting through the 360 just like my "real-world" Netflix subscription, I watch it then I "send it right back."

So I see it is being okay, but I definitely believe it is a tad bit expensive as it is definitely more than going to a Blockbuster and renting a DVD.

What I am waiting for, and I cannot believe it is not being done more often already as I really thing the major movie studios are missing out on a chance to make decent amounts of money, is when movies can be rented the same day they are released in the actual movie theater. I know for example that movie the Girlfriend Experience did that (cause it was an absolutely bad movie IMO), but I would pay $20 to watch or "rent" a movie on it's release day, as that is the same price, actually less these days, then going to the actual theater with my wife.

I know there will be major resistance from movie theaters as they are going to really be upset over the fact they cannot make their money off overpriced dry popcorn and overpriced flat fountain soda, but I think it is just bound to happen in the next few years, at least I hope it does.

Ohh sorry as DL said you're only renting movies, it the tv series that you're buying. I was thinking of PSN maybe.

Actually I think it is the same deal on the PS3 if you pay the "rental" price, 24 hours once you hit Play or maybe you get to keep it for a few days, I have only done it once so I am not exactly sure on that but I know it is very similar if not the same. The only difference being is the PS3 also usually has a few options with purchasing the movie as well, with a decent amount, but not all of, the movies also including a price to keep them.

Very true DL, I often don't watch the same film again for a few years, so a 3 watch option wouldn't be very ideal for me either. I suppose its best how it is, and like you said, you are basically paying to watch it then give it back.

And whilst watching a movie on release day at your own home would be nice, I can see the cinemas putting up a massive resistance to it as they will lose quite a few customers and extra revenue for the ?10 it costs you after you've bought a pipette of drink and half a popcorn.

This is why you get your wife to empty our her biggest purse she has and load it up with snacks and drinks before hand. Thats the best way to do it. :)

(Y) Oh trust me, we do just that. I do everything short of bringing in a cooler and a grill.

For just the tickets. Actually they raised the price to $10.50 a ticket by me, so $21 for me and my wife.

If we do for whatever reason not have her purse stocked, which does happen on occasion if we are just running late or decide to go while we are on the road, etc., it costs $37 total. $21 for the tickets and $16 more for the Medium popcorn, 2 Drinks, and 1 pack of Goobers "combo." I put combo in quotes as it makes no difference in price if you buy it as the combo they offer or individually. Wish I was kidding.

No ****ing way, and I thought we were over charged here!

It costs me ?4.90 for a student ticket in Glasgow (it can be less outside of city though). That's like $8 for you guys. Even adult tickets aren't that much more though if I were to buy them.

No wonder movie piracy is so big over there. There's no way I'd pay that kind of money to see a movie. We don't even need to sneak in snacks (they are priced really high here too), but I've never been stopped taking food in.

:o @ those movie ticket prices.

For once the UK actually comes out cheaper :p I think it's only ?4.25 for me, but that is student prices. Might be nearer ?6 for a standard adult, which is guess is pretty much $10 actually.

At my local cinema an adult ticket will run you ?6.90, with a student being ?5.20. This being for standard seating, if you want the "luxury" seats, then you have to add another ?1 on top of that.

Complete rip.
