There's been a lot of talk lately about an Activision Boycott. I think the reasons are pretty obvious, their CEO is a douche and nobody's happy about the extortionate prices they've been trying to put on their games (Most notably Modern Warfare 2).

I, for one, have always maintained that I'll never pay more than what I think something is worth. For me, that's about ?30-35 on most games, with maybe ?40 for a good collectors edition. MW2 wont be any different, I can wait for that to drop in price or pick it up second hand. I'll happily pay the ?55 for a second-hand copy if it means Activision don't get a penny of my cash.

But what about you guys? Will the raise in prices put you off buying their games? Will you just wait for them to drop in price? Or will you stand your ground and not purchase any of their products until they stop trying to raise said prices?

Or are you happy to pay over the odds?

Discuss!

I'm unlikely to buy anything for that kind of price from them, but I wouldn't exactly consider it as boycotting them. Just... smart finance management?

No, I won't boycott Activision. It won't make a difference. There are so many more people that will continue to buy their games. Personally, I'll just wait until the prices drop. I'm in no hurry to purchase a game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. I'm sure the demo will keep me busy for a good while. :p

If I am going to take the time and energy to focus on boycotting something, I personally would make it something that affects the greater good of humanity overall. And no offense to anywhere here, myself included, but video games do not fall into that category.

At one point in time things were different, hell, one of my very first Topics as a member here was one called "Steam: Refuse & Resist" about trying to organize a boycott against Valve as I originally loathed Steam (and it is now by far my favorite app that does what it does), but something has changed over the past few years, call it getting old which I definitely am doing, but I just see it as a total waste of what could be energy given towards another more meaningful and effective effort, whatever that may be.

Fast Food, Government, Taxes, A local restaurant in your neighborhood whose owner is a fill-in-the-blank of any bad attribute, I do not know, there literally could be thousands of scenarios I can think of. But banning a video game company, one who honestly is one of the better big guys out there, cause there CEO is a loud-mouth and they are releasing high priced collectors editions, well I just do not get that reasoning. As long as the regular standard versions of their games are the same as other companies, than I see no issues whatsoever. The collectors edition is just that, for collectors, so if people want to pay ridiculous prices for ridiculous items, well that is their right to do so if they choose.

I'm just the type of guy that boycotts things that annoy me. I've currently got about 15 things on my list right now  . Most of them are local restaurants, but I'm not picky. Annoy me, and you get added to "the list"!!!

I won't buy the game at that price (extortion much) but I won't boycott the company either.waste of time, because people will still buy their products if they want them regardless of how many people say they are bad

i think i missed something about mw2's price. i just looked it up on gamestop and the regular game is $60 for pc, 360, and ps3. the other editions that give you extra unneeded crap costs more but none of that stuff is important so why pay for it?

All this hullabaloo about boycotting Activision over the prices is nothing more than chat - Activision know how popular COD is, and they know "all of us enough of us" are going to buy it regardless.

Unless we get statistics of MW2 selling a considerable lower amount at launch/in tracking with MW, Activision will remain upstanding about their decision to increase the price, and quite frankly they'll have got away with it. Then it will be gamers shedding tears, boohoo, nothing we can do about it.

For what it's worth I'm not buying it until it's cheaper, but I'm not boycotting it, I'm just opting not to "waste my money". I'd rather buy one new game for ?30-?35 and then 3-4 pints on top of that equalling a total spend of ?45, than just buying one game at ?45. However, that's my brains econom:ps :p

Well there's this one pizza place that I used to order from at least once a week. One time they sent me a pizza with a screw in it and then denied it, so they're now boycotted. That's a good $100+ a month they're not getting from me.

Generally though I'd say no, it doesn't affect them, but it makes me feel better!!

I won't support tyrannical CEOs so yes I will be boycotting activision.

instead you'll support CEO's that sell the games cheap, and thus can't afford to pay their developers and artists fairly, and hires and takes advantage of fresh out of school devs, and in the current economical climate they can even take advantage of seasoned ones.

int he past buying games for 70 was normal, the last game i bought for that was Age of Conan

i have noticed though most games lately have been capped at 40

i Think 40 is fair, when comparing it to other entertainment

A night at the bar, 20+(4 hours fun maybe)

A movie night, 10-15 for ticket, then another 10-15 for food and drinks(thats 2-3 hours of fun)

A game you've researched and know is good, lasts 20+ hours at least, and i for one buy good multiplayer games that last for months and months

Auch stop being dramatic, lift screw out, enjoy Pizza

You're being sensible about it though, I on the other hand just can't turn down good Pizza, it would have to be sprayed with raid for me not to eat it

Nope. If they put out a game that I really enjoy, I will purchase it.

If they raise the price, I will probably wait half a year and buy it at half the price, used.

It's not like I'm dieing to play most of the games coming out these days, anyway.

What does this have to do with Activision's CEO wanting to crank up prices? IMO it's the developers and artists being taken on a ride by the publisher's themselves.

Except for the fact that it was baked into the crust and I bit into it  .

I've eaten pizza that I've dropped on the floor, but it was my floor
