V-99 ODST
I loved those keyboards that could power on the Mac with the power button on top right corner. Was Apple the only company to do this?
+Thayios Subscriber² Posted August 10, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted August 10, 2009 Nothing more annoying then sitting there playing CS at 3 AM and hitting the sleep button instead of F1 and having it minimize and not come back up... I disagree, POWER BUTTON STAY GONE! lol
carmatic
i remember in the last 3 motherboards i had going back 4 or so years, there was a bios option to 'wake by keyboard' but i also remember having to hit the space bar specifically to turn on the computer, any of the other keys dont do anything

Some can wake up on a mouse key press. My motherboard has that, although I'm not sure if it's for only PS/2 or USB keyboards/mice. I'm not too keen on having certain hardware buttons placed on the keyboard - the disc eject button is one of them. What if you need to eject the disc while the OS is frozen, or if power goes out? There's no external disc eject button, nor a pinhole button to press to pop out the tray.
KoL Veteran Posted August 10, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 10, 2009 What they have to do is replace the white keys to black. They will match everything better. :p

That's not healthy Tech Greek. But do what you will. Above all even if you hit the power button by mistake you can change your system settings where a dialog will ask you to cancel the shut down command or proceed. I like convenient ergonomic computing in favor of drooling all over my keyboard at night *Neo waking up headphones on looks at CRT monitor "Wake up.. null_
I hated those keyboards... especially the ones that put the Power button in the place where Print Screen normally was, because every time I'd screenshot something I'd wind up shutting my machine off. EDIT: This one's for the PC keyboards with a Power button... not the Mac keyboards.
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted August 10, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted August 10, 2009 Ctrl+Eject does the same thing when you're actually in OS X. Brings up the shutdown dialog. As for switching it on via the keyboard... Dunno.

Quillz
I believe the power buttons on keyboards don't even technically work anymore due to the way USB interacts with the hardware. Something along the lines of the keyboards not receiving a certain amount of voltage or something... I believe there is a specific keyboard combination that completely shuts down the Mac, bypassing the shutdown prompt, but I can't recall what it is.
