DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 10, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 10, 2009 Hate Xbox Live’s 100 friend limit? Blame Halo 2 By Nathan Grayson Hey Mr. or Ms. Popular, is the inability to have more than 100 Xbox Live friends the only fly buzzing around the delicious cake that is your perfect life? Well, we can’t help you, but we can give you something to blame: Halo 2. Speaking with a “high level source,” G4 discovered that Halo 2’s still-active community is the main reason you can’t complete preparations for your 101-person online orgy. Since Halo 2 is an original Xbox game, it adheres to the original Xbox’s technical limits. The exact specifics of why Microsoft can’t just patch the whole darn thing weren’t given, but suffice it to say, they can’t. Otherwise, they’d have already done it. So that’s that. G4 recommends that you pester Microsoft until they cave and find a way to up the friend count. We think that’s a good idea. So then, get to it! http://www.vg247.com/2009/08/10/hate-xbox-...t-blame-halo-2/
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted August 10, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted August 10, 2009 I guess we should be able to add as many friends as we want on all these online services, but to be completely honest I think if you're at 100 and need to add someone finding someone to delete probably won't be hard... There's joy in hitting delete, just pretend you're erasing that person from existence  expects Munky/Sethos to now go delete Audioboxer from friends lists
+Mystic MVC Posted August 10, 2009 MVC Share Posted August 10, 2009 I've always been fine with the 100 friend limit. In my opinion, anything more would be overkill. How often do you play with even 25% of your friend's list anyway?

greenwithenvy
How could one person keep track of 100 different XBL friends? lol If you're reaching that limit... you need to go through and delete the friends that their last login date was "3 months ago"
Unimatrix Xero
i only have 12 friends on my friends list, besides if i had 100+ friends then i would be sick of all the 'Player X has signed on' popup all the while
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 10, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted August 10, 2009 If I didn't love you so much AB you'd be long gone, especially cause I see you on XBL once a year or something :p I wish I could remember everyone on my friend list, or they at least used the same alias on Neowin as they do XBL. I would probably delete more than 50% if I could. I have 98 right now, who I either know IRL, from Neowin, or friends of friends from Neowin. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted August 10, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted August 10, 2009 You don't play online anyway. :p I don't have a gold sub, but the biggest reason I ain't ever on Live is because I only have one ethernet cable running to behind my TV and swapping it between the PS3/360 is a complete pain in the ass due to how the cabling runs in. I gotta go behind the TV almost... Seeing as I use my PS3 as a media hub, I need it connected over a wired connection for streaming HD, else I'd just use PS3 wireless, 360 wired (I don't ever plan on buying a 360 wireless adapter, complete rip off). I've been meaning to buy a cheap router switch for about half a year so I can split the connection into two... I'll do it one of these days, I'm coming back to Gold soon. Unrealistic
do you have a laptop? Just use network sharing and connect it via ethernet.
+Mystic MVC Posted August 10, 2009 MVC Share Posted August 10, 2009 do you have a laptop? Just use network sharing and connect it via ethernet. Only if he has a decent connection. I've seen three people try to setup connections that way and they always ended in either failure or the laggiest connection ever.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 10, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted August 10, 2009 Seeing as most people hate the PM's on XBL, I just wanted to use this topic to let people know I am clearing my friend list out. Basically cutting it down to the people who I play with regularly, but if I remove you and you actually want to play a game, then feel free to add me again or PM me. Anyways back OT.. +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted August 10, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted August 10, 2009 One game that isn't current anymore holds the entire system back? That's kinda pathetic.

+Mystic MVC Posted August 10, 2009 MVC Share Posted August 10, 2009 One game that isn't current anymore holds the entire system back? That's kinda pathetic. Not really considering it was built on old architecture based around the original Xbox Live system. Xbox Live was completely redesigned to a point with the 360's release but it still has to support legacy Xbox Live code. Microsoft can't pull a Mac on this one and drop legacy support considering the numbers still playing Halo 2.
Kushan
You REALLY don't need to follow Major Nelson and co on Live. I don't see why 100 friends is an issue. I can understand why it would be on the likes of MSN and such, but Live?
Saint Shiv
I honestly wish it were smaller. It would force me to play with the people on my friend's list. I know so few people IRL who actually play and I wind up adding 10-20 per game. If I stop playing that game, I basically don't play with those people anymore. A really decent feature would be a grouping feature. Sometimes I can't remember who these people are, what game I played with them... perhaps even a "last played with" feature. Anybody on the forums here, I'm pretty active on Halo 3 and Left 4 Dead(soon to be L4D2). Add me at "Saint Shiv", also I'm EST. SMELTN
I always wondered why the limit was 100. I am no where near that. I mean I have like 7 friends on XBL I think. I just recently added Munky and Sethos, and now watch DM go and delete me now. :p
DJD
I have 33 friends on my list, and i have no clue how they got there. I only play with like 1/3 of that on a regular base.

I cut it down to 50 odd last night. Like I was saying though, if you want to play a game then feel free to add me again. Otherwise there is little reason to be on someone's list.
