Will Fallout - New Vegas live up to our expectations?

Hey guys, I'm a massive Fallout fan, completed 1, 2 & 3 in that order... played Tactics to death also even though it wasn't much of a Fallout game. Online was fun though.

Anyway, I was on the fence about Fallout 3 being an FPS, although I was happy someone had actually picked up the project after going through 2 developers and 2 seperate engines. To hear that Bethesda had picked up the franchise was a sigh of releif as I was familiar with the quality and depth of the Elder Scrolls games.

I'm still playing Fallout 3 to this day and have all the add-ons, its simply fantastic and has just as much depth as the originals, wonderfully executed game. Then comes the announcement of New Vegas... ok, fantastic, 'New Reno' springs to mind. One of my favourite locales from Fallout 2, the crime families etc, ok this could really be absoloutely awesome, so much more awesome than Fallout 3 even, you have sprawling Las Vegas casinos and crime families surrounded by the Nevada desert. It's pure video gaming gold.

BUT... Obsidian. Do you really think they are up to the job? More importantly do you think they will actually complete the project? To know they have some original Black Isle devs on board is highly reassuring, however they dropped the Aliens rpg that they were developing, NeverWinter Knights 2 was pants and we are yet to see whether this Alpha Protocol lark is actually going to be any cop!

What are your opinions guys? And what would you like to see in New Vegas?

I really want them to fix the major problem I had with Fallout 3, being able to continue playing the game after continuing the main quest without using a mod or buying an expansion. Of course, they'll have a different (yet similar) story and probably add some new weapons, items, enemies, etc.

Yeah that really irked me, I was expecting it to be like Oblivion and be able to keep playing after I finished the main questline, oh how wrong I was! however, I actually screwed myself over as all my save games were after the "point of no return" so I just deleted all my save games and started again from scratch. I wish I knew before I deleted my save games about the mods/DLC that let you continue playing after you clocked the game! I spend so many hours on that character....ah well, doesn't matter kinda fun starting from scratch and now I know what happens at the end I can be more careful to ensure it doesn't happen again!

Well, my save file on Fallout 3 /w all DLC is around 150 hours now. Fallout 3 and Operation:Ancorage were awesome, Broken Steal was great, The Pitt was average, Point lookout lacked depth and Mothership Zeta was awful.

So they've been going downhill for a while so I don't have any big hopes for Fallout New Vegas. But I'll be getting it either way.

Except Bethesda isn't making New Vegas, Obsidian Entertainment is. Bethesda is just publishing it and making it apart of the Fallout canon.

Thus my concern! However they do have some original Fallout devs that departed from Black Isle during the split so maybe they will stick up for the project and put some effort into it? This could go either 2 ways, very well or very badly, there is no median!

I put faith in that Bethesda will have some oversight on the whole project, they won't let a studio ruin a potentially huge series of games for them, nor will they publish a crappy game (based on their record).
