XBox 360 Scores Exclusive Netflix Movie Streaming

Those Microsoft rascals have scored a big one: The Xbox 360 is now the only game console that will get Netflix video streaming. No Sony PlayStation 3, no Nintendo Wii, no Atari 2600. That's what the Xbox Update page says:

Netflix Partnership

This exclusive partnership offers you the ability to instantly stream movies and TV episodes from Netflix to the television via Xbox 360. Xbox 360 will be the only game console to offer this movie-watching experience, available to Xbox LIVE Gold members who are also Netflix unlimited plan subscribers**, at no additional cost.

From the Netflix Web site, simply add movies and TV episodes to your instant Queue, which will appear automatically on the TV screen via Xbox 360. Once selected, movies will begin playing in as little as 30 seconds. In addition to instantly streaming Netflix movies to the TV, Xbox LIVE Gold members can browse and rate movies, fast-forward, pause and rewind, all using either their Xbox 360 Controller or Universal remote.

Oh Sony, Sony. That has to hurt. A little. In the inside.

I heard a little bit of a rumor concerning this one, correct me if I am wrong on this. The reason sony isnt getting it is due to them not allowing sony movies to be streamed. I think because they dont want this stuff on the xbox. Because of that netflix wont be going there. Essentially if they stop the blocking of sony movies then netflix can easily go to the ps3.

Since you're new here you should go back and read some of the reasons why Xbox charges for Gold (Silver is still free) and how that compares to Sony's free offering. If you need to "label" yourself as serious since you have two consoles it should be an enjoyable read.

Now only if they would expand their lousy selection of "streaming" movies we'd be set.

I find theres a great selection of instant stream movies, my instant stream queue is like a goldmine.

Yes but in the past year even Netflix said they were working on bringing their service to more devices, and rumours began that included the PS3.

Microsoft just bitch slapped all those apparently now, false rumours.

It's the same info from the press release released in 2008.

Netflix brought the rumours on themselves by handing out questionnaires.

So a company can't improve itself without people getting ahead of themselves and jumping to conclusions? :p

What an awful world we live in (N)

What?

I'm not talking about MS, I'm laughing at Gizmodo making an article out of something that's been stated since 2008. It's not new, MS are just putting the Netflix info on the update page.

I read about netflix being exclusive last year but I thought it was just rumor, but anyway had netflix since long time ago but I hardly watch it online cuz of low quality. I would rather have it on a dvd or BR.

Now if they had porn on there that's diffent story....

The quality isnt that bad if your connection is fast enough. I got a 6mb connection and the HD stuff looks better than what I would get on my cable channels in HD. Also you have to keep in mind what the source movie is. If its some crap they claim is in HD but it was made like in the 90s or earlier you know its not going to be real HD.

PlayOn still works with Netflix for both PS3 and Wii for less than 1 year of Live Gold, along with still getting Hulu and a few other streaming sites.

In response to DM's post

1: you gotta pay for PlayOn

2: it also works on the 360

So really you can skip Gold membership and still use Netflix. But native support = ftw

1) That's what I said, but it's still cheaper than a Live Gold account needed for the native stream

2) What I mean is, PS3 and Wii owners still aren't missing out on this, no matter how it will be spun.

Anything recorded in professional film, such as 35mm, can produce resolutions equal and beyond HD. That is why there is a market for classics being remastered on Blu-rays. From Russia With Love (1963) is proof of this.
