DrBroccoli
So this past week I was on vacation and was staying at my sister's home. I left one night and came back to see her and her roommates on my Macbook Pro, so I Googled a bit and found that by opening Keychain access I could have a "lock screen" and enable it to lock on wake/screensaver/etc. It worked great while I was there, but now that I am home, it's kind of annoying to have to put in my password everytime I walk away from my computer... Not to mention it asked for my password everytime ANYTHING wanted to do ANYTHING (Think UAC on Vista...). I'd open Safari and it'd be like "Hey, what's your master password so I can let Safari use the internet" or if I'd log on it'd be like "Gimme the password so I can check your GMail!" Needless to say this got WAAAY annoying. I Googled a bit more and found a site that said to delete the files in ~/System/Library/Keychains, and sure enough it stopped asking for my password! The only problem is, it doesn't remember any of my passwords now. I have to pick my WiFi network and enter the password everytime it comes back from wake and all my Safari stored passwords are non-existant. Any ideas on how to get it back to working BEFORE I decided to fuss with it for Vacation?
giga Veteran Posted August 11, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 11, 2009 There is no ~/System/Library/Keychains. Do you mean ~/Library/Keychains/? Did you delete login.keychain? Time Machine?
DrBroccoli
The website I found said to delete everything in there, which apparently was a bad idea... Anyone I can create new entries or something so it quits asking me for passwords?
giga Veteran Posted August 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 12, 2009 Go to Keychain Access prefs and try a reset.
DrBroccoli
I think it's still all messed up =( When I open mail it wants me password, when I open iCal it wants my password... Not my keychain password anymore, it just won't remember ANY password anymore. I want keychain to remember my passwords, but I don't want it to ask me to enter my master password so it can just enter in my password for that program, which is what it did before I deleted all my keychains. giga Veteran Posted August 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 12, 2009 Go back to Preferences -> First Aid and tick every box. Then run keychain first aid. Finally, make sure your login keychain is unlocked so other apps can access it without needing the password.
DrBroccoli
Hmm, I just realized when I "reset" keychain, it didn't work. Yes, I put in the correct password =D
giga Veteran Posted August 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 13, 2009 Delete login.keychain from Finder and run first aid again to just let it create a new one.
