+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted August 13, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted August 13, 2009 Today Treyarch has given a serious warning to all Sony PSN and Microsoft XBox Live would-be hackers and console modders... if you are caught, you'll be banned from all of their online services. To quote: Our most recent TU addressed a number of issues that arose as a result of modders hacking their console and ultimately disrupting the online experience for everybody else. In light of these recent events, I’d like to make something abundantly clear to the community: Treyarch has adopted a zero tolerance policy towards console hackers / modders. We are actively working with our console partners (Microsoft and Sony) to take action against all proven offenders, up to and including a complete ban from all of their online services. Our number one priority is to protect the experience of our online gaming community (most of you reading this message), and the efforts of console hackers / modders directly target the community in a negative way. We understand that a primary motivation in hacking / modding is to bring something “fresh” or “new” to the game. That is why the PC platform has a full suite of Mapping / Modding tools, along with plenty of documentation to go along with it. If you are interested in the technical aspect of game modding, check out the PC version of CoD:WaW, where modding is legal, fully supported, and encouraged. There is a flourishing community of mod developers who have taken their curiosity and passion for modifying the released game and have turned it into a positive experience for their fellow gamers and enthusiasts. In fact, some of the very talented developers here at Treyarch were hired as a direct result of their productive PC modifications. For those of you that are currently modding or are considering modding your console, this message should serve as a warning; for those of you looking to enjoy a safe and fun online experience, please be reassured by it – console hacking is illegal, and will not be tolerated. We are working hard to maintain a pure, fun online experience for upstanding players, and thank you for your ongoing support. Source: http://www.ps3news.com/General-Off-Topic/t...onsole-modding/ This will probably turn into a ****ing contest on Treyarch/a "I don't want to play your games anyway" quote fest, but I fully agree with this. Exploiters/cheaters are whining teenagers taken to the next step... well at least they don't scream down the mic as much, they just have insecurity issues :p

Exploiters/cheaters are whining teenagers taken to the next step... well at least they don't scream down the mic as much, they just have insecurity issues :p I've messed with consoles a bit [not modding, trying to extract their proprietary file format crap for fun], and from that I've talked to a lot of people into console modding. It isn't about insecurity or being cool or any of that, 99% of the people that do it (and unfortunately, generally the more quiet ones) do it simply because its fun to know your getting in to the stuff you weren't supposed too. On PC, your supposed to mess with it, wheres the fun in that? I do agree though, messing with multiplayer is where you run into the people with some problems. Antaris Veteran Posted August 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 13, 2009 Is this a result of the same flaw found in CoD4? In any case, I feel that anyone who used the exploit should have their scores reset.
g~man
hopefully they will ban the geeks who mod their control pads dudes spraying their svt's and gehwer's quicker than a mp40 haha, its rediculous

M_Lyons10
I'm not a fan of "big brother" like things, but I support this. The reason many (I won't say all) people mod their systems is to cheat, or negatively impact online play. I think that this should be handled as such. There's really not reason to mod a closed system like this... If you want to find out how it works, or play around with it, do so with a console that isn't on Live... It's just that the ones that make themselves known are generally of this type.
Ji@nBing
Anyone caught cheating should have their consoles and PSN/Live account banned. Leave that cheating crap to the PC's. That's one of the reasons I prefer console's over PC, so I fully support them in this. That said, I think they make crap games that I don't play anyway, though the SP on WAW was pretty good. Coldgunner
Cheaters should be banned. Play the game properly or don't play at all.
spenser.d
Then seriously, why post in this thread? My guess is he's pokin fun at AB for yet again predicting that the thread will turn out poorly in his first post in it. They usually don't turn out that way, and I know I'm not the only one here who wonders why he does it. OT: There should be a zero tolerance policy. Good for Treyarch. -Spenser

Minifig
lol "hackers", they wishlol "illegal", my arse Monky, ever heard of a EULA? If you violate Treyarch's End License Agreement in any way, they can do whatever the hell they want to your account or game, and technically, breaking a EULA is illegal. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 13, 2009 Maybe in your country with your stupid "laws", but I'm not going to be sent to prison/fined for cheating in a computer game. Our courts would just laugh at Treyarch and tell them to gtfo. I can do whatever I like with the software I buy or with the hardware I buy. If I break agreements not to cause harm on XBL/PSN, yes they can ban me etc, but I can proceed to mod the code/hardware however I see fit.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted August 13, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted August 13, 2009 I can do whatever I like with the software I buy or with the hardware I buy. Yes you can, but the minute you connect to a service (in this instance, Live) you adhere to it's rules and they can do whatever they want to you. hsraffety
to me, console modding is more about playing games for free rather than hacking games. i just don't want to pay for the games. lol
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 13, 2009 Right, and the furthest it will ever go here in the UK is being banned from the service. Or actually, to be more specific, my gamertag or console will be banned. They wouldn't have any problem with me buying another one and taking my money. Anyone who seriously thinks you're gonna end up in cuffs for cheating in CoD4/WaW needs their ****ing head checked.

DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 13, 2009 If you do something illegal, what happens? You are either fined or locked up etc. Do you honestly think that would happen for cheating in a game just because you broke the EULA?

Uhh Munky the term 'illegal' doesn't always mean involvement with the law/cuffs/getting locked up. 2. Prohibited by official rules: an illegal pass in football. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/illegal An illegal pass in football isn't getting you locked up :p
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 13, 2009 Rules and laws are different. You're not breaking a rule when you kill someone, you are breaking the law. Just like you're not breaking the law when you make an illegal pass, you're breaking the rules. As the saying goes, rules are meant to be broken
Sethos
An illegal pass in football isn't getting you locked up :p You should stop by Denmark some time, your view of the world would change in an instance. neoadorable
illegal in this sense means you're breaking a contract, contracts are binding civil agreements. the worst they can do to you if they have really good representation, too much time on their hands and a sympathetic judge is slap a judgement against you for an amount determined by the court. i don't think anyone's talking about sending gamers off to prison for cheating in a game. Just like you're not breaking the law when you make an illegal pass, you're breaking the rules. Treyarch are talking about illegally breaking the rules, which you are if you're cheating. I still have no idea why you're going on about getting the jail? For those of you that are currently modding or are considering modding your console, this message should serve as a warning; for those of you looking to enjoy a safe and fun online experience, please be reassured by it – console hacking is illegal, and will not be tolerated. They are talking about cheating, such as the save game exploit which unlocked the console in COD4. You're the guys that spent a whole night arguing with me in the COD4 PS3 topic that this was hacking/modding or whatever. As the saying goes, rules are meant to be broken  Wtf so you're now condoning cheating?
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 13, 2009 Read Andrew DB's comments on the previous page. This whole throwing around the word illegal in any sense is ridiculous, it's scaremongering making it sound like a serious crime, which of course it isn't. Breaking the rules, yes, prohibited, yes, illegal, no. Console hacking? There's absolutely no hacking going on here at all.
