Snow Leopard vs. Windows 7: The War of the Wallpapers

"I would give a lot to have Steve’s taste."

Bill Gates said that of Steve Jobs at the D5 conference two years ago, and we knew exactly what he meant.

Take, for example, the two images above. They are samples of the new desktop images offered by this fall's big operating system updates: Microsoft's (MSFT) Windows 7, scheduled for release in October, and Apple's (AAPL) Snow Leopard, due in September.

Can you guess which is which?

Gates may have retired as CEO and Jobs may have spent much of 2009 on medical leave, but the taste gap persists.

To see the full sets of wallpapers, obtained by Creative Bits, click here for Windows 7 and here for Snow Leopard.

Several of the 10.6 walls that were in the previous seed were removed, such as the camo and different graffiti nonsense. Can't say that I'm surprised as they were awful.

I can't believe people are actually talking about default wallpapers. Who cares?

You know what, I thought it was a thread comparing the features of Snow Leopard and Windows 7. Let's just leave this as a wallpaper war, I think it's better like this :p

There's some I like from Windows and some that I like from Mac OS. There's a lot more wallpapers and themes available on the Windows link from the control panel. The thing is though, I can't remember the last time I used the default wallpapers that came wtih Windows - I think that must have been back in 98.

The comparison is fairly tasteless. People will find some default Windows wallpapers more aesthetically pleasing than others, and people will find some default Snow Leopard wallpapers more aesthetically pleasing than others. People will also go online and download other preferred wallpapers, or put their own photos as wallpapers. Neither picture is completely representative of either set of default backgrounds, so what is the point again?

The nature and architecture Windows wallpapers are pretty good. The rest look like an acid trip gone horribly wrong.

I think Apple win this one percentage-wise. Interesting to see they have some famous art works in there too.

Hum, in overall, I like more the Snow Leo's.

But Win7's plants are just awesome

Do people use the default wallpapers?
More than you think, every single "Joe User" usually use the default wall paper (Not even the others provided...)

We're actually getting a thread now filled with comments "I like Windows 7's more" or "No, I prefer the ones from Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard".

Default wallpapers, haven't used them since Windows 3.11

Back in Jr. High I had this tech teacher who loved his Macs and he told me he kept his walls just plain light blue. I had to admire his taste it just kept that plain workstation look about it.
