Rage Screenshots Fresh From QuakeCon

Recommended Posts

I don't really see the huge difference by using megatextures, but the game does look pretty good.

It would be hard to tell from just a couple of screenshots, but to me, the landscape does look quite a bit less repetitive and with far-less obvious tiling than previous open games like Fallout 3, Oblivion, and the like.

Eh, we'll have to see more to really judge. But after seeing those screenshots and reading IGN's article earlier today, Rage is certainly looking more interesting.

i think that the point is to not notice anything when you are using megatexture... the same thing goes with traditional texture tiles, its only bad when you can spot the tiling...

games have used tiled textures since the beginning and they still managed to look non-repetitive, at least in the parts your supposed to focus on, you will be able to spot the tiling in out-of-the-way places... these screens are not that different from the promotional shots in other games where they show the best angle etc, its when you actually go into the game and explore that you will see the complete lack of tiling

and alot of it is in the level design as well, an indoor place with megatexture would be just like any other properly textured and modelled indoor place
