Bethesda has no plans for an Elder Scrolls V

Bethesda?s Todd Howard as confirmed that there is no Elder Scrolls V in the works.

What?

?We are working on our next big game but we are not talking about it,? he told attendees at his keynote during QuakeCon 2009. He went on to say that there are no ?current? plans for a fifth addition to the series.

Ok, that?s a bit better.

He did, however, say that there is always ?a chance? that an MMO will be created for the series, but apparently it was said in a joking manner.

A ?chance? is always better than a ?hell no? any day of the week, but a new title for the single-player end is probably wanted by the masses first, Todd.

 Saying no to a big pile of cash for what would no doubt be another hit game..

I dont blame them, you can always have too much of a good thing and Oblivion was extremly successful for them as well as Fallout 3 so maybe they dont want to keep making the same game in the same setting having to innovate and bring new things to the table for the sake of it.

Yes its sad that they dont have any plans for another since i loved Oblivion and offline RPGs are amongst my favourite type of game, i would rather they not create a new one than make one just because the fans want them to and it turn out to be crap.

Title should read "Bethesda has no plans to make money and or be successful"

No need. They're already rich and successful thanks to the fantastic Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and the mediocre Fallout 3.

Also bethesda has already has there hands full with new fallout and doom 4. I guess they can hold ES for another year.

They are only publishing Fallout New Vegas, not developing it.

Doom 4? You have the wrong company :p They are working on Brink currently.

I think he got it mixed up with Bethesda's main company, ZeniMax, who are publishing Doom 4, but yeah, development-wise, it's in the hands of good old id Software.

^ What I'm saying is people will expect more from ES5 then what they had in ES4. So it has to be better graphics better story, dialogs and the whole enchilada.

Which by any means can't fit in a single DVD, ES 4 was 7.3 Gig in size and Xbox 360 disk can hold only 8.5 Gig max. Also the article you referred too was almost a year old and he said "potentially".

Bah. They better learn how to do animations, lighting, faces, something more believable than Radiant AI, and come up with an interesting character development system first. I've never been able to get immersed in either Morrowind or Oblivion, there are so many quirks that it feels like a broken computer program, not a universe.

What size is/was Fallout? It's apparently small enough to do a GotY edition with all DLC on-disk. Same with Oblivion.

And that article might be old, but it shows that at one time, they "did have plans" for an ES5.

So much for the good 'ol argument of investing in your favorite game so they'll keep developing it...

Stole our money with that horrible Oblivion and now they're running ;( (well not literally..)

It's funny how whenever a developer announces another iteration of a long-running franchise, people complain about how they're greedy for cash. Now, when a developer is stating that they're not planning an iteration of a long-running franchise, people are criticizing them for making a poor financial choice. Those devs just can't win, can they?

I'm interested to see what they'll make now, since Fallout: New Vegas isn't being handled by Bethesda.

I'd rather see a "rehash" of an RPG with more story driven elements and a chance to actually progress in the game and feel like I accomplished something within that game. The rehashes of games I hate to see are DooM, Quake, UT, etc. Those types of games have one thing in common, they're mindless and with the exception of better graphics, they're all the same from version to version.

there's nothing mediocre about Fallout 3, it is a really good game

Fallout GOTY edition I think was around 8.3 to 8.4 gig.

But I would like the next ES to look like this

True. I suppose that the saving grace of a franchise like Elder Scrolls is that you become more immersed in the world with each iteration (like how in ES3 you were in Morrowind, but in ES4, you were in Cyrodiil), whereas in a franchise like UT, you just get some new maps, a graphical facelift, and maybe a few "new" features.

The thing with the Elder Scrolls is that each installment is such a huge labor of love for the developers. I think that if they phoned in another installment, we would all be able to tell within five minutes of playing it.
