Capcom surprised by Marvel vs. Capcom 2 sales

The enhanced remake Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is doing quite well on the Xbox Live Marketplace of the Xbox 360. In fact, the downloadable title is actually exceeding expectations from Capcom.

Christian Svensson, Corporate Officer and Vice-President of Strategic Planning & Business Development of Capcom, stated the following in the Capcom-Unity forums when confronted by a member saying that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 won’t sell:

“Your assertion that MvC2 wont' sell is a bit off. It could become our best selling digital title so far. It's actually surprised us.”

That is quite impressive when you considered that Capcom’s other enhanced remake of a 2D fighter, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, broke numerous sales records for a downloadable title when it sold 250,000 units in less than a month after its launch in late November.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was released on the Xbox Live Marketplace of the Xbox 360 on July 19th. The Playstation Network version came out on August 13th. The statement from Christian Svensson was made just before the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was released on the Playstation Store. So it should be interesting to see if his stance has changed at all.

Hopefully we will see some other Capcom fighting games on XBL. I find MvC2 too confusing however it is a great game to play with other friends who have no idea how to play. Street Fighter IV on the other hand is hard to play when you are playing with someone who knows what they are doing.
