djweasel
So one of my friends Xbox's got banned for "modding" when he never did anything wrong, and he's got a 120 GB HDD and wondering if he puts it on mine will my console e banned too? Or is it just the Console not the HDD that will be banned.
hsraffety
bull**** they don't ban consoles for "never doing anything wrong" lol, just admit it because there is NO WAY that console will ever be unbanned. anyhow, in regards to the question, it's just the console ID that's banned. not the HD or not the gamertag. TogaForComfort
As far as I know, you get banned if Microsoft detect a modded DVD drive that allows you to play burned games. Is the HD modded? I've not seen a ban for a modded HD yet, but it's alwasy possible.
djweasel
HDD is not modded, got it like a few months ago from Amazon.com.....I am gonna try it but I wouldn't assume that the HDD will get another console banned, since the accounts on the HDD aren't banned. I don't care if his consoles unbanned, I'm worried if mine will be banned for putting the HDD on mine. I know it's not an IP ban because we put my xbox on the internet here and it worked fine just worried bout the HDD getting me banned.
hsraffety
Right like I said, it's just that specific console that's banned. You can play his Gamertag on your Xbox and they won't care. Just don't mod the console again.
TogaForComfort
Should be fine then. Sounds like the XBOX it's self has been banned but not the accounts on it. Should be fine.
djweasel
I figured but M$ hasn't given me a direct answer. I think the ban was because of getting the new update early from the invites, because that's been doing alot of updating before his console was banned. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 16, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 16, 2009 The beta program would not ban you. Even if you weren't supposed to be in the preview, the worst that would happen is you wouldn't be able to connect to XBL until it officially released. Aye, MS warn that if you put a Beta updated HDD into a non-beta registered Xbox, you might invoke the update process - which could potentially screw it up or fail to connect to Live until the final firmware is released. djweasel
So even with the update out could the HDD screw up my console? I'm nervous to put the HDD on my xbox, obviously I'll do the license transfer but yea. Idk.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 16, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 16, 2009 No there is nothing wrong with the HDD. Your friend has a flashed 360, pretty simple.
djweasel
Flashed what do you mean? He just got this one from M$ a few months ago, and I've played on it practicly daily as we live together and have my xbox and his in his room we ususally chill on his. Sethos
Meaning the drive has been modified to play 'backup' games.
djweasel
The Hard drive is fine. I know that, because it's never been touched since put on the xbox.

DR3AMxCATCHER
Modded 360 no doubt. Sorry brother man. They don't just randomly throw out console bans. What is his gamertag?
V-99 ODST
The Hard drive is fine. I know that, because it's never been touched since put on the xbox. What he means by flashing is that he opened his 360 and hooked up the DVD-RAM drive to his computer via SATA and over written the DVD firmware with a custom one for playing back up copies. You can open up a 360 very easily these days and it won't even looked like its been opened.

t0mbi
...just do it...and let us know how you go! Whats the worst that could happen? haha :D
djweasel
The xbox has never been opened or touched other than when he moved from a 20GB to 120 GB drive. Plus he's not smart enough to mod his xbox. The worst that can happen is me getting banned too....I can verify that And what's the GT matter? Because the GT's we have aren't banned. I had my main on his xbox but it's w/e I know if I recover mine it won't be banned.
Subject Delta
If he hasn't modded his console, he should never have been banned. I'd get him to contact the support department and find out what the ban was for.
Spartan Erik
Even if you do get banned, you can always pull the Wal-mart 360 switcharoo! My friend has done that with at least 5 360's.. talk about unlucky lightning storms!
Ji@nBing
Either he modded his console, or he's not banned and something else is going on here. Simple as that. I'd get him to format the drive and then recover his gamertag onto it. That should fix any possible funkyness that could be going on because of the updates. But like I said, unless he modded his 360, then it's NOT banned.
