Ok so since last Thursday Lionhead's website has been updating with historical figures and quotes..

GamesCom: Lionhead sticks Che Guevara on its site

What?s this, then? Lionhead just tweeted a new splash page for its website, which features an image of Che Guevara and the quote, ?At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love.?

?We just fancied putting it up there,? a rep on the phone just told us before clamming up so hard the universe nearly exploded.

This may or may not be related to the Peter Molyneux announcement at GamesCom next week. Call us bluff old traditionalists, but we?re going for ?may?.

Peter Molyneux was on stage this morning to reveal Fable III.

No surprise there. He went through a part of the game?s plot, some of the new gameplay feautres and more.

It?s out in 2010. It?s out of Microsoft?s GC presser. See what happened here.

Update: Microsoft just released the press release for it. It?s after the jump.

Compassion or Cruelty? The Race for the Crown of Albion Begins in ?Fable III? Exclusively on Xbox 360Microsoft and Lionhead Studios unveil a thrilling new adventure in the multimillion-selling ?Fable? franchise, while introducing episodic distribution of ?Fable II? only on Xbox LIVE.

COLOGNE, Germany ? 19 August 2009 - Alexander the Great. Genghis Khan. Queen Elizabeth I. Che Guevara. Throughout history, revolutionary leaders have taken very different paths to power, bringing about prosperity and poverty, peace and sometimes anarchy to their people. Now Microsoft Corp. and Lionhead Studios will explore the journey to rule, with you in pursuit of a kingdom, in ?Fable III,? the exciting new game in the critically acclaimed ?Fable? franchise. The title?s debut was confirmed today at gamescom in Germany by Peter Molyneux, Lionhead?s creative director, and will be available exclusively on Xbox 360 in the 2010 holiday season.

?Be not deceived. Revolutions do not go backward.? ? Abraham Lincoln

Since its inception, the blockbuster ?Fable? franchise has offered players the opportunity to choose their own destinies as a hero, villain or someone between, where the possibilities are limitless and the consequences can weigh heavily on the path to greatness. In this new adventure, players will witness tyranny, poverty and injustice plague their land. They will see a people divided, and they will be compelled to stand up for change. They will also be forced to answer a question: What would you sacrifice to secure the crown of Albion? Will you uphold the values and principles that led to your ascension, or will you be corrupted by the station you?ve strived to acquire? Will you be a monarch of the people, or bring the entirety of Albion to the brink of collapse?

?We?ve spent a lot of time at Lionhead thinking about how we can innovate the gameplay and progress the world of the ?Fable? games for its third chapter, and we?re confident that players won?t second-guess what we have planned for ?Fable III,?? said Molyneux, who also serves as creative director of Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Microsoft Game Studios. ?Though I can?t give too much away right now, players should expect to have to make much tougher choices with far wider consequences than ever before in Albion ? and with many more interactive adventure elements.?

In the epic story of ?Fable III,? the journey to rule the throne of Albion begins five decades after the events of the last chapter, and you play as the child of your hero from ?Fable II.? As you rule your kingdom as king or queen, you will be called upon to make choices and sacrifices that will test your morality and can affect your entire kingdom. Themes of heroism, leadership and consequence are taken to a grand scale as you fight to unite a divided people.

?Fable II? in Single-Serving Sizes

While ?Fable II? has become the best-selling role-playing game of all time on Xbox 360, there are some who still have not experienced the magic and adventures that await them in Albion. For those who have watched from the outside, unsure if they were hero material, a surprise awaits. Microsoft and Lionhead Studios are about to embark on a new journey with the episodic release of ?Fable II? on Xbox LIVE. The launch of ?Fable II: Game Episodes? will debut Sept. 29 with the release of the first episode for free download exclusively on Xbox LIVE.

In the first episode, players will experience childhood and the trials of being a young adult in the world of Albion. After completing the chapter, players have the choice to then purchase the next installment or the entire game (in select regions). ?Fable II: Game Episodes? delivers the entire ?Fable II? experience in five consecutive instalments, with all the Achievements, challenges and excitement of the disk-based game, as well as full compatibility with the previously released Game Add-ons, ?Knothole Island? and ?See the Future.? The episodes are also fully compatible with the disk-based, retail version of ?Fable II,? allowing players to enter Albion and continue their story should they purchase ?Fable II? at retail. All editions of the game offer cooperative play with friends on the same couch as well as on Xbox LIVE.*

?With the launch of Games on Demand on Xbox LIVE, we have a great tool in place to deliver classic titles in an incredibly convenient fashion,? said Phil Spencer, general manager of Microsoft Game Studios. ?With the ?Fable II? episodic model, we?re encouraging people to experience the first chapter of the game for free, then move onto other chapters when they are ready. It?s a unique model and one that will appeal to gamers who?ve been hesitant to dive full into the original retail release.?

?Fable III? will deliver a sweeping, powerful story and new innovations in gameplay and Xbox LIVE functionality when it is made available in the 2010 holiday season, only on Xbox 360. More information about ?Fable III? and the episodic release of ?Fable II? will be made available at a later date at http://www.lionhead.com.

I'm intrigued by the possibility of anything that involves Emma Goldman, Robespierre, and Che.

There is speculation that this is a sequel to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic:_The_Revolution Rebellion (AvP) has the rights to that right now, AFAIK, but there was an Xbox version of the original in development that was cancelled, which could have resulted in some sort of transfer of console rights?

So it's turned out to be Fable III for northern hemisphere Fall/Holiday 2010.

Nice, but not totally unexpected. I wonder how many iterations of the franchise they will run. Three seems to be a magic number these days.

I can see that game universe persisting, but I'd be surprised if "Fable 4" was still in Albion. There was something cool about going back to the same locations in Fable II and seeing everything changed from the first game, but I'm not sure how satisfying it would be to have that continue indefinitely.

I'd love to see a Western ARPG set in a mythical Eastern Europe (Poland/Russia) or Asia or something. Same Lionhead sense of humor etc but a setting more like The Witcher, I guess. A bit more raw, colder, darker. Fable II had it's moments (the swamps where the ruins of *spoiler* and the well of souls were located) but I felt like overall it was a brighter game than Fable was.

Would've liked to see Fable II for PC. :hmmm: Once again we get ****ed over. (N)

This IS the console forum.

I doubt there will be any MGS GFW releases until after 7 ships, and then those games will require 7 and the PC guys will bitch about that. Seriously, I understand that PC gamers pour a lot of money into their rigs, but even in the crazy mixed up console wars world you rarely hear so much whining.

edit: That sounds nastier than I intended. Imagine a way to tone that down and put it in a sarcastic voice.

Another Fable?

Molyneux went on: "No, REALLY! I'm not pulling your chain this time! THIS one's gonna be everything I said the first one would be..."

That would be very cool. I would really like something kind of like how Sega had structured Skies of Arcadia. Skies of Arcadia was a really amazing game where you could fly between floating islands. Many of the island regions would be based on different cultures in real life. You could sail to one area and be in something like Japan, another area was desert like, etc. It was very entertaining, and allowed your character to both meet many different types of characters, but to run into them in the future, or have them join their cause. Boy I loved that game... *sigh*... In any event, that would be very cool in Fable... LOL

THAT was hilarious. LOL

Yeah. I mean, Fable's world is great, but everywhere you go is vaguely English (well, duh, Albion, still) and populated by bandits and zombies (and hobbes). More variability is what I want from this series now. I mean, even the Zelda series has that. My biggest disappointment with Fable II was the lack of big boss fights. It was pretty much restricted to Trolls, and Banshees and they don't put up much challenge once you reach a certain point.

TLC at least had a nice dragon battle at the end.

Haha, that's exactly what I was going to say.

"Lionhead is going to release... FABLE 2 FOR THE PC!!!" then realized that it will take 1-2 years for it to be ported over like the previous one with all the DLC's included. Fable: Lost Chapters is one of the best selling Action RPG's for the PC so I don't know what people are trying to argue about when they say that it's because of piracy...

I still have to finish Fable 2. I LOVED TLC, what a good game. I honestly was kind of disappointed in the changes they made to the spell system in Fable 2. They kind of crippled it IMO.

I agree with what you're saying about seeing different areas, cultures, etc. Good idea.

I'm glad I played Fable 2. It came out in a busy release month but when I finally had the time to play it, I couldn't put it down. It was a pretty great game all around, especially all the crazy co-op options which normally you wouldn't even expect in a game like that.

Bring on 3!!!

What Fable III needs is some more variety in the baddies and more open endedness.

Fable II is a beautiful game, but I felt it to be too repetitive at times. Travel back on foot after so many times and you know when and where the monsters will spawn, it just makes for a dull experience to me. I would also like some bosses. The only boss I remember is the giant troll. They need to make these things epic and memorable! C'mon Lionhead!

Or rather the difference in the amount of times the game has been downloaded for the console vs. PC.

Which, actually, I'm not sure, but I'd assume it'd be quite the difference. If not, then you can roll your last statement over to me. :D
