Blizzcon 2009

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

So Blizzcon is right around the corner and i know that there has to be some fans on Neowin and was curious to know who is going and what are some of your predictions that you believe are planned for this years event.

Personally, i am hoping for a release date announcement for Diablo III/Starcraft II, but knowing Blizzard and the way they do release dates i somehow doubt it lol, but still would be nice.

So what do you all think?

i paid for the online stream to watch blizzcon being that i live in ohio and cannot afford to attend. However i am expecting a announcement for the next WoW Expansion, and a few more cinematic for Diablo III and Starcraft II then again today we were given a sneak peak at a starcraft II cinematic so who knows what is around the corner. But hey we will find out in just a few days.

Starcraft II maybe, or they'll announce a beta perhaps. There not going to announce Diablo 3 release date since it was just announced last year and hardly any details are out about the game yet.

I do expect Blizzcon to be dominated by WoW of course. Blizzard is due to announce a new expansion for it and with all the rumors floating around the internet about The Cataclysm, its bound to be announced here.

Well... my predictions are...

- At least the US beta for Starcraft 2.

- New diablo class.

- WoW's next expansion, possibly something to do with the Cataclysm trademark.

- More details on Battle.net 2.0.

The most I care about right now is the thing about Starcraft 2 beta, hoping to get in it when they announce it.

I'm paying for the steam but not getting my hopes up about release dates.

They just announced that SC2 wont be available this year due to battle.net issues. So i highly doubt we'll get a release date, its also in doubt weither we will get a beta date either for it, as they cant open the beta until they have the battle.net up and running. So, we'll just get more information about SC2 and they'll release some of the Battle.Net plans which they've been keeping underwraps. We havent had any new details about SC2 for ages now, so they've been storing them to give us a bulk of info for blizzcon.

Edit: I think the SC2 information they will release, will be the single player campaigns and battle.net 2.0 details (they will go through EVERYTHING they hope to have in battle.net and the structure of it, as they've been keeping that under wraps).

No way in hell there will be a release date for Diablo 3 yet. We'll just get alot more information about it.

Blizzcon this year will be mainly about WoW, with alot of SC2 details released and trying to build the hype for it (and showing off what they've done for Diablo3 at the moment). I'd guess it was originally planned to be mainly about SC2 but with it being 'delayed' until 2010, they cant do much else except try and create more hype.

I'm unsure if we'll get any information on the next WoW Expansion, with Arthus patch still to come in the future. We may just get a trailer for it and a name (which wont give any details at all), setting the scene for any future information they might give out.

I was going to get the online stream but I don't exactly have extra money to spare right now.

Anyone know of anywhere else I can find a stream for free? I so want to watch.

lol

World of Warcraft: China vs. Global Champion

are they going to have a power leveling contest?

lol i think Athene's record still stands for powerlevelling. 26 hours or something 1-70 and then 13 hours from 70-79 (got 3 hour ban and level reset to 70 coz he used and mob tagging")

I was going to get the online stream but I don't exactly have extra money to spare right now.

Im not sure 100% but i think there a website that starts with justin and ends with .tv that may have a "free" stream on by someone but I doubt there would be any other places. Best off looking to be honest.

Now I wonder what the estimated release time frame for Cataclysm is?! They did mention smaller sized expansions coming more frequently, so I wonder if it will be less than the 2 year wait between the last ones.

Thats one way of getting flying mounts in Azeroth as everyone has been asking for......recreate Azeroth and call it an expansion....

Its going to really screw over a majority of questhelper-style addons. Instead of just adding more like they did with TBC and WotLK they will have to recreate many of the lvl 1-60 quests and area locations.

G4TV.com Blizzcon Coverage

Who gives a toss? Everyone benefits from this expansion. Desolace now looks AMAZING. Hell you might even want to level in there now. :o

Agreed. The part i hated the most about wanting to level another character was the fact that everything was the same, very boring, this should change things hopefully.

I have a feeling the changes will only be after a certain level or event and only if you have the expansion.

Remember, Blizzard introduced Phasing in WotLK, multiple people can be in the same zone but compeltely different "area's" depending on what quests they are doing and what not. Chances are they will use this same (or at least similar) technology for Cataclysm. You will probably not be leveling in Desolace until level 80+ instead of the normal level you would be there at.

At the same time, it would be interesting to see how it would work exactly, would the towns be all phased together? Wouldn't that make it possible to escape an enemy in a different phase than you by simply running outside town? Or would the towns also be affected by the Cataclysm and be in the same phase as the surrounding area? Wouldn't this effectively separate all the high levels from the low levels?

Would you be able to fly around Azeroth before the Cataclysm or only after it?

Granted everything I mentioned is speculation, but I honestly dont see how this massive of a change would be possible without phasing. If someone DOESN'T buy the expansion and only runs classic WoW then will they see the new pre-Cataclysm terrain or post-Cataclysm terrain? I would almost go as far as saying they HAVE to phase characters after a certain point to see the new terrain, otherwise the lore would be extremely screwed up for anyone running Classic WoW.

But wouldn't that same thing affect how players interact with each other (high lvls not being able to help lower lvls for questing, etc).

Now, I never played WotLK so I am not sure exactly how phasing works, but I highly doubt low levels will be running around the Cataclysm terrain seeing as it would distort the lore of classic WoW if that was all someone had.

Third to last paragraph

Will I need the expansion to be able to experience the Cataclysm changes?

When the Cataclysm occurs, it will occur for all players, whether they have purchased the expansion or not--you will no longer be to play in the original version of Kalimdor or the Eastern Kingdoms. However, certain features such as the new zones, new races, and new level cap will only be accessible to players who purchase the expansion.

Guess old WoW will be gone forever, and left to private servers heh.
