FlibbyFlobby
Off Screen: CryEngine3 PS3 Next to Xbox 360At GDC Europe Crytek demoed CryEngine 3 on both the PS3 and Xbox 360 next to each other (PS3 is on the left, Xbox 360 is on the right). Does either look better than the other? No. Even up close there wasn't any discernible difference (though the 360 monitor was darker). They both look incredible. Video Source 1UP Looking pretty good on both if you ask me. :)
+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted August 18, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted August 18, 2009 Yeah, only difference I see is that someone adjusted the brightness on the PS3 monitor...
ashpowell
I personally think the lighting makes it look better on 360 :)
ramsy66
I thought they said that Cryengine couldn't run on the consoles.
Ci7
I thought they said that Cryengine couldn't run on the consoles. the one that got used in Crysis yes. but they made modification to engine to scale well with consoles
red.
Was reading this on Kotaku and apparently there's a better quality video on IGN somewhere but i haven't been able to find it.
Waylander
check out this though ok they have to run it on consoles so i dont expect 1080p/60fps but 15 foot draw distance?
Sethos
check out this though ok they have to run it on consoles so i dont expect 1080p/60fps but 15 foot draw distance? The fact the shadow runs at a different fps than the object itself looks terrible, that's what I hate about "optimizations". Crysis and Crysis Warhead were games you played to enjoy breathtaking graphics, as games on their own feet they were pretty run-of-the-mill, so a gimped console version is so pointless - Waste of time. That's just my opinion.

Pupik
The only difference except the lighting I noticed, was the FPS drop on PS3 when they took the corner on 0:33.

SimplySchizo
aside from contrast (360 is always dimmer on games than ps3, i always have to up the contrast on my screen when playing anything on my 360) they are identical.

And the draw distance in crysis was already pretty bad on pc too, pop in was terrible. if its even worse on sonsoles that will really suck. t0mbi
meh im just grateful they are porting CryEngine over to consoles. from what i heard crysis sucked anyways :) but none the less they are porting it over to 360..which is 3/4? years old now? +Mystic MVC Posted August 19, 2009 MVC Share Posted August 19, 2009 Looks great for what consoles are used to. Wonder what we will end up seeing on it...
shakey
The shadows and lighting didn't look as good on the ps3 as the 360, but all in all, not much of a difference.
+Mystic MVC Posted August 19, 2009 MVC Share Posted August 19, 2009 No offense but how could you tell with the 360's TV being so incredibly dark?
Boz
It might be just me..but Xbox 360 version seems to be have nicer texture and better ambience there.. PS3 seems to be too bright and those texture look less detailed and washed out. I also noticed a framerate drop at one moment there on PS3. What is this in general? a new game or just showcasing the engine?
shakey
No offense but how could you tell with the 360's TV being so incredibly dark? Comes from a good eye for detail, plenty of gaming years under ma belt, and looking at each picture...... When you play PC games, you get used to looking for such minute details. We get to change so much of the engine with the options, that you end up testing what each option does at each setting and even and which resolutions as well. a1ien
from what i heard crysis sucked anyways :) You heard wrong - Crysis was teh best game evar :p For one, the realism in the multiplayer made playing it pretty interesting. Anyways enough with the consoles. I want to see Cryengine 3 running on a GTX 295. But clearly, the PS3 can't keep up with the XBOX 360... that's pretty sad for it. M_Lyons10
Yeah, only difference I see is that someone adjusted the brightness on the PS3 monitor... You know, that's kind of funny, because when I see comparisons like this that seems to be common. They did a comparison of Tomb Raider Underworld and the XBox 360 was darker than the PS3 they were testing on. I wonder if it's not the screen... I know that XBox 360 does have better shadow handling, so perhaps they brighten up the PS3 version to not show any issues with that? I own both an XBox 360 and a PS3, but have never owned the same game on both of the consoles (Because what would the point be? LOL).

Either way with such a far away view and poor quality video in general, I just thought it made looking for minute details a bit difficult. I have no doubt you have an eye for detail but I would trust that comment more when we have better videos in the future.
FlibbyFlobby
There's two more much higher resolution videos over at Voodoo Extreme with nice detailed close ups of both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions plus showing the live development tools and how they sync across consoles. The engine is looking really impressive actually. Seems like it can do a lot. Obviously it won't look as stunning as on PC but that's pretty much a given.
