carmatic
This is a real shame for all those getting sacked. And for those of you thinking that maybe it's no surprise due to the lacklustre MP in the game, remember there's a lot more to it than that. For a start, why is the entire team being sacked? It's very unlikely that each person involved actually had much input into the whole experience. From the artists to the coders, they usually get given a design brief and told to do it. Whoever designed that brief should be sacked, not the team that did it. And even at that, we have no idea of the constraints the team were under. How long did they actually have to work on the MP? How were they interacting with the rest of the Wolfenstein team? It would be understandable to hear of one or two people getting laid off, I mean some people honestly just deserve it...but the whole team? Something isn't right here. +1 did they realize that the MP was bad so quickly that they fired them immediately after the game was released? gian
out of topic, but does anyone play the MP of RTCW? It is the best MP i've played but it's kind of old now, but if people still play I may try it again :D I guess the new one is no where near the old MP eh? +Mystic MVC Posted August 19, 2009 MVC Share Posted August 19, 2009 Yeah the SP is decent, but nothing great or even ground breaking. Even more annoying there is barely any achievements for it. Still not sold on using the veil, more gimmicky than it is fun to use.And I've not bothered launching MP myself either. After I played the beta my expectations for that dived. Which is really a shame because 1: I've been looking forward to a proper sexual for a good 6 years 2: I wanted something to tide me over until Halo 3 ODST Not technically an FPS, but what about Batman: AA? That is my plan to tide myself over until ODST.
Dead_Monkey
+1did they realize that the MP was bad so quickly that they fired them immediately after the game was released? Unlikely. Raven is part of Activision now, and their relationship with id is completely over (when id was acquired by ZeniMax, they said that they would no longer outsource their ip). Activision already has at least two FPS studios, so it may be that they regard Raven's FPS teams as being superfluous at this point (Raven has also been doing the marvel top down ARPG games).I definitely empathize with these guys. They worked hard for months possibly with the expectation that they would get a nice paid furlough (some of them would have been contract guys, who probably expected to be termed after the project) before moving to a new project and instead they got a pinkslip. Having experienced this twice in my own career, it's not a good feeling. Hopefully they will be able to land on their feet, it's tough times all over. carmatic
i thought id was acquired by Bethesda?
Dead_Monkey
i thought id was acquired by Bethesda? ZeniMax Media, Inc. owns both id and Bethesda Softworks, as well as Vir2L (phone games), Mud Duck (your guess is as good as mine, but I think they made some PS2 games), and ZeniMax Online (which makes MMOs, theoretically). Bethesda is still the brand used for publishing console games and PC games, but I think that ZeniMax owns some of the ip at this point (technically ZeniMax owns Fallout, except Fallout's MMO rights which still are with Interplay). Yeah I'm looking forward to that a lot, but I want a new FPS to play.
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted August 19, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 19, 2009 So I decided to check the MP out with a friend, and oh my. It was way worse than I imagined it could have been. The lag was atrocious. No other way to put it. And everyone in the match had full green bars, so I have to believe the lag comes "built in." Wow. Just wow. It is pretty bad. Could maybe be halfway decent if they sort the lag out, but even then I believe it would only be run of the mill at best. It really is a shame how they could tarnish the series name itself, as Enemy Territory will always be one of my favorite PC MP games ever. Still feel the SP experience is definitely enjoyable though. carmatic
the rtcw multiplayer from almost 8 years ago was something which shaped how i experience multiplayer fps games in general... good maps, good community which made custom maps, fair gameplay and a solid netcode, plus my computer was fast enough to keep up a constant 60fps with a geforce4 and a pentium 4.... just like how any good multiplayer fps game should be, really you have to wonder if the team which made the MP was actually expecting to be laid off anyways... Lovell
Single player is surprisingly fun a LOT of boss fights, it's incredible how they managed to **** the MP up all they had to do was make RTCW/ET with updated graphics few extra weapons and maps and most people would have been fine with it, ET has around 12,000 players playing it at any one time, as well as the thousands playing playing quake and other fast games who are just waiting for a new fast paced action game. :s
Minifig
i thought id was acquired by Bethesda? What does Id Software have to do with this? This was made by Raven Software, Id Software just supervised it.
DanManIt
I'm definitely going to have to give the SP in this game a shot. It does sound like they really botched the MP, but I'm willing to try the SP
