Battlefield 1943 Won't Be Out On PC This Year

Hey, PC users. Sorry if you thought Battlefield 1943 would be out on PC sometime in 2009. Really sorry. Because it won't be.

Instead, the game has been delayed into 2010, DICE's Gordon Van Dyke telling G4TV:

We haven't released a Frostbite [DICE's game engine] built game on PC, so going into this project we lacked a starting foundation we had on Console. There are also many different and unique only challenges to the PC that has lead to us pushing the release even further to Q1 CY 2010 [early next year]. This was a hard pill to swallow, but it was absolutely needed to ensure the features and functionality that PC Players have come to expect from Battlefield on PC are not missing. Things like support for DirectX 9 and 10, higher player count (up to 32-player matches), wide peripheral support i.e. Joysticks for flying, VoIP, and ranked server provider hosting. So it was and still is the absolutely right decision, for quality sake, to not release until it is ready.

Sad reading that a Battlefield game of all games is having trouble being ported to the PC, but everything he says makes sense. Better to wait and have them do it right than have them do it...not right.

A game and a series that was born on the PC might very well die on the PC. Shame. Absolute shame.

Need to stop this reverse gaming, releasing everything console first, leaving us pc gamers in the dust for months after a release. Not to mention DirtyLarry is right, its pathetic since the game came to be on a PC but may very well die.

With all these titles being pushed to next year, it's gonna make for a very, very busy Q1.

And a very dead Q4, which is when most people make purchases

Modern Warfare 2 > Battlefield 1943. Why bother with an above average multiplayer game when you can get the new CoD game?

While I agree with you on this, it's still the fact that Battlefield has ALWAYS been a PC game, and now they release all these console versions first, and follow up by a oh, it will be next year for you guys.

Yeah but I wouldn't exactly call BF1943 a shining example of a Battlefield PC worthy title, it's just a watered down quick-buck shooter - It's not a major loss, bring on BF3 instead.

Sigh. Was really looking forward to this on the PC. I just can't get on with Battlefield games on Xbox 360 as playing FPS's on a joypad just makes me angry - the keyboard & mouse combo just works much better for me for these kinds of games.

Ho hum. I can wait :)

That really sucks. The game is still going strong and you know it will have a decent release on PC. By the time it is released though, I fear that the majority will have moved passed.

Wish not granted, next.

Heh, Sethos, I love your input in the Gamer's Hangout.

+1 to your comment about waiting for Battlefield 3. Battlefield 2 was simply mind blowing in scope when it first launched.

So instead of just doing a quicky and sloppy port they are gonna make it right and some people are mad at them? This is like L4D, just because a IP was always on one system does not mean that it is entitled to always get special treatment. They are here to make money and the consoles are where its at.

Besides Battlefield 3 is on the way why would you take a watered down version anyway?

Warez less, get more games - it doesn't much simpler than that. Even with 360 piracy being rampant they're still raking substantially more money from there with considerably lower support costs.

What a shame. I probably won't be getting it on PC. I played the demo on my PS3 and it isn't that much fun.
