paganinio
note that some games are both 2D and 3D (Final Fantasy VII), but that doesn't affect the poll, you're still choosing your favorite one.
MrChainsaw
I think overall 2d games are better, right now its just some fps crap with fancy graphics and some crap story. But there are some exceptions...
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted August 21, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 21, 2009 I don't think 3D or 2D have any special "edge" over each other, it really depends on how it's executed and what it's got to back it up. I love bright, colourful 2D graphics like the old Pokemon games and such, but at the same time I also like the realistic style graphics of HL2:EP2/Portal (I've seen some pretty bad looking games that were released after Episode 2)
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted August 21, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted August 21, 2009 3D games are better because.. they are 3D. 360 degree control, depth, volume.. you can do more things in a 3D game. Most 2D games are either boring or just casual games that don't offer much apart from repetition.

Dave_teh_Tech
Well of course 3-d games are going to be better graphics, but when it comes to story or depth in the game you can never beat the old 2-d games. But i agree FFVII is an a freak in the world of gaming. it has mostly 3-d graphics, but has 2-d elements and the best freakin plot ever.
Ironman273
Except 3D games these days have some some crap "story", and a first person view...how can you call that a game? I don't understand what you're saying here. Is it that games with "crap" stories aren't called games? Are bad movies not considered movies? And a game with a first person view is not a game? 2D was 2D because there wasn't enough graphic power. A lot of the old 2D would even try to mimic 3D as best they could. Most of today's 2D are only 2D because of nostalgia (think Braid | Mario). I'm not saying 2D games are bad. I have a lot of fond memories playing 2D games but it seems to me like you're trying to discredit 3D FPS because of what they are.
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted August 22, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted August 22, 2009 2D games just don't stand up anymore when it comes to the big picture. They aren't going to offer anything new, because they're limited by the fact they're 2D. But yeah. Not all games are First Person. Look at the new Tales of Monkey Island games for instance. They've jumped from 2D to 3D and it works perfectly, and in my opinion it's a lot funnier because the animation is better, and the graphics and other visual effects that wouldn't be possible in 2D make it feel more atmospheric.
