spenser.d
You guys give people too much credit. The market isn't going to say "hey these are the same price but the 360 has less features", they're going to say "hey we're getting a deal here, this console costs $100 less". Not to mention that none of the features that you guys are talking about as selling points aren't really selling points at all (except for Bluray, but that's only if the customer has an HDTV). People are buying these consoles for the games. The only reason the PS3 will likely sell more is because people haven't previously been able to buy a version of it for a cheaper price. -Spenser
Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted August 22, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted August 22, 2009 Oh nice! This holiday season will be VERY interesting indeed! I don't know if you know this or not but the PS3 has NEVER came with component/hdmi cables so the fact that the 360's going forward won't I don't think is a huge deal breaker. The no built-in wi-fi is still unfortunate but even if it did have it I wouldn't use it because there are wired ports right next to where my 360 and PS3 can plugin. I would plug my Wii in but thats not an option on there :(. A lot of other people might be in the same boat. I think they still need to lower the price of their add-on though or just include it.PS3 NOW finally has a real better value proposition on paper and in price. Same price ... more features. + Free Online (Albeit inferior to Xbox Live) + Blu-Ray + Supposedly better graphic capability 'potential' + Built-in Wireless The +'s are really now finally stacking up in Sony's favor. Oh please. Better graphic "potential", that made me laugh, so your still justifying that Xbox360 to PS3 comparison is still better, cause there are a tun of videos out there that prove my point. Sure PS3 has potential, but when will we see it, MGS? That's the only time so far, IMO. Built in Wireless, that is a strong selling point? I don't think so. PS3 does have the Blu-ray advantage over Xbox360, that's for sure. As for the free online play, I have never tried it myself, but hear negative things about it from friends, who prefer to purchase multi-platform games on the Xbox360 because of the online over PS3. As much as I agree with everything you said the only thing I am angry about with MS is that their accessory price are thru the roof.
Vortex566
MS fail on the fact they charge so much for HDD. I know this has been said before but it really annoys me about the 360 and the cost of a new HDD. My 20GB is now full and it is going to cost me around ?65 to get a 120GB drive. I got a 160GB drive for my PS3 for ?45.
Livin in a box
Now, I'm hoping to get a 360 for Christmas, and I currently have a PS3. Now, the reason I chose it was because of the exclusive games I wanted, the free online (I wasn't prepared then to pay ?40 a year for being able to play a game online), and because more people at my school had them. The former has since changed, but now with a cheaper price, the PS3 will sell more. Whether or not the 360 does is really irrelevant now, because as someone said before, there are loads of PS2 owners just waiting for the PS3 to drop in price. And for it to be smaller, lolz. Plus, with the online facilities being greatly improved, one day PSN will be just as good or better than Live. So yeah, that's all I have to say really. But no inbuilt WiFi is full of fail anyway. I think people are forgetting that just because they don't use it because it's slow for HD streaming, not everyone does that, they just use it for online gaming, in which case it works perfectly. Well, it does for me and everyone I know anyway.
PGHammer
Personally I don't use wifi on the 360 as I just use a wired bridge from my PC, BUT a lot of people do. It wouldn't be that much of an issue to not have it included if the official adapter wasn't priced so high. I mean, you can get an adapter for the PC that uses the EXACT same tech for $10-15, so why are they charging $100 for it??!?! If they want to charge a premium on it, $30 would be fine. $100 is just insane!!My buddy just moved to a new 3 story house. His router and PC are on the 3rd floor and is 360 is on the 1st, so running a cable is not an option. He ended up buying a whole new router to use with his 360 as it was cheaper than buying the official adapter. The fact that it's cheaper to buy a new ROUTER than the official adapter is just batshit crazy. That's because the cost of routers has dropped in a major way since the move. Wireless-N routers with gigabit WAN/LAN (the minimum N router I'd recommend today) are $100, if not less. N routers with fast Ethernet, not gigabit, are where wireless-G routers were a year ago. ($75USD, if not less) And those are retail regular prices, not even retail sale prices (let alone e-tail). My wireless-G router (Linksys WRT54GS V2) has effectively been replaced by the Linksys WRT160N in the Linksys sales card; in fact, the 160N now costs less than the GS did when I bought it new. (The GS is four years old; not exactly ancient.) I'm in the odd position of considering N right now, despite having no N hardware, due to increased intra-LAN file transfer speed requirements between two *wired* PCs. (Other than a router swap, the only other way to implement the change is to add a gigabit switch, and a router swap would be cheaper.)
