Blizzard: No Diablo 3 Release for 2010

Recommended Posts

That won't happen until WoW starts to properly die down as there is no real point in cannibalising their own customer base.

Indeed. They might even be able to wait until next generation of consoles are coming and adjust the game so they can do a console MMO too. Depends on how long WoW will last of course.

Considering this, the only MMO they would release while WoW is still going strong is a console MMO, because it has a different audience and will not take customers from WoW.

whats sad is that these delayers are due to the developers being stolen for the new WoW xpac, they dont care anywhere near as much about the SC2 and D3 projects

im going to be buying both blizz games tho =D

Starcraft 2 announcement: 2007

Starcraft 2 release: 2010

Diablo 3 announcement: 2008

Diablo 3 release: 2011

Souns about right, if you ask me, I don't get all the whining, this was to be expected.

I have an advice, find another game to play until then :p. By then,if not already, there will be plenty of titles to rival diablo 3 and let's face it, Blizzard has a tough time getting getting the game to today's standards. No wonder the delays.

Ouch. I at least expected it sometime late summer or before winter 2010. :(

I thought they had announced the game because it didn't have over a year left.

I think it's funny how Blizzard is pretty much the only game developer that has its own convention. On top of that, getting it sold out within a minute... Yet, they only have 3 games essentially.

Anyhow, this doesn't really surprise me. Blizzard = slow? Well, duh. Starcraft 2 is only the sequel to a game that came out more than 10 years ago. At least now though, it seems Blizzard has grown enough to the point where they can better multitask their projects appropriately. Hell, I'm still curious as to how they can get Cataclysm out by 2010 (not that they said so specifically, but look at the timeline).

but thats a pretty stupid move to make, why build up a base of 12million players and then not cater for them? WoW wont last forever and Blizzard knows this, thats why they're starting to work on the next gen MMO now, even though WoW still has 2-3 expansions left in it. So that as soon as WoW starts to fail, they can grab all the WoW players instead of another MMO siezing the opportunity.

Enough with the WOW world. With all that revenue being generated, they should be reinvesting that back into the company to strengthen and develop new or preexisting franchises. I'm sure people are ready for something new, so give it to them. In this day where people want things now, they better be a few steps ahead of the wave.

It better be worth the wait, that's all I'm saying.

I agree, I'm tired of Blizzard (and other companies) wasting it's talent and resources on MMORPGs.

at least with Bioware I can claim they are working on 2 good single-release games that actually have close release dates and a MMO. So I hope with Old Republic coming out they don't change that and ignore their roots like Blizzard has.

Not sure whats with the delay, From looking at the screenshots from both Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3. They aren't pushing any technological boundaries here.

Perhaps instead of crying maybe make an effort to fill in their diablo jobs: http://www.blizzard.com/us/jobopp/

Blizzard likes its game to be polished as much as possible before release.

When they announced Starcraft 2 years ago, people said it looks good to release then :p As far as SC2 goes, they're still applying the finishing touches to single player and waiting for Battle.Net to be completed, once Battle.Net is ready, the beta will be out almost instantly. Then its just a matter of fine-tuning until release.

Diablo3 probably doesnt have any backwork done on it yet, its still missing another class and probably missing a huge chunk of its storyline, Singleplayer, and CGI.

Well the WoW expansion cycle shouldnt really come as no surprise to you. WotLK was annouced at blizzcon 07...out in 08....Cataclysm annouced in 09...out in 10.

Disappointing news on D3 but from the companies point of view, releasing 3 massive titles all in the one year is pretty silly. Cataclysm July, SC2 in time for xmas season and then D3 maybe before/after Blizzcon in 2011.
